My mother-in-law got the lap band a couple of months ago. It has worked well. She is down about 50 lbs. The thing about the lap band nowadays is that it is mostly like an outpatient surgery. Some surgeons will actually send you home the day of the operation, but this one that did the surgery for my m-i-l keeps his patience over night. The new band does not slip near as often as the older ones did. Infact the chance of the newer version slipping is very, very low. It is way less evasive than gastric can be. I have a few friends and family memebers that had gastric and some have health problems due to the surgery. So I would say it is mixed on both sides.

True. Gastric bypass is much more invasive and therefore more apt to problems but I'm talking about the studies of long term success.

I have yet to see anyone with lap banding have quality success. The most they lose is about 50 pounds, and that can be in the space of 2 years.

In addition, there are constant complications from the band, and lifetime adjustments have to be made.

Metabolism, muscle, fat - Weights, cardo, and intelligent eating.

I recommend lots of reading before trying. Even count the 2 weeks you spend educating yourself as "losing" weight. It's well worth it, and saves you tons of effort.

I myself am gaining weight - good weight! (at least trying very hard too)
