Re: Is This Blasphemy?

The cartoonist is Pat Oliphant. CBSnews.com prints his/her cartoons as well.

It's certainly highly irreverent, especially putting a curse word in God's mouth.

Now you know how the Muslim folks felt about cartoons featuring Allah! At least we're not threatening to kill the cartoonist or bomb the paper!

True, however America wasn't founded on Allah.

Re: Is This Blasphemy?

I think it's blasphemous.

But I also feel that by being overtly religious and political we often cast our pearls before swine and invite blasphemy and degredation of religion.

Another thing I notice is that while it is definately blasphemous....the point of the cartoon is really lost on a lot of us.

The point of the cartoon?

What exactly do you think the point is?

Well, to the reasonable among us, it is to make fun of speaking in tongues. But to Bro. Chris, apparently it is something else. Unless, he too finds tongue talking hilarious.

The reply I received from the WashPost:

From: Deborah C Howell [mailto:HowellDC@washpost.com] On Behalf Of Ombudsman Internet DropBox

Subject: RE: Today's Political Cartoon - 9/10/08

I was looking at the political cartoon in the paper. The one you were looking at was one of many on line. Political cartoonists have great leeway to comment, using satire, hyperbole and many other tools to poke fun at politicians.Oliphant is well-known for his biting satire.
