If you know what your talking about and have it set.

You donot needs notes.

Have you ever watched a TV and the actor keeps looking away at the que card? To me that actor is not serious and is unprepared.

To me a minister nailing it with flow and annointing without notes is Prepared.

Many of those yellow not pads are filled with chicken scratch from playing a preaching tape or watching Rod Parlsay.

If I were pastor and someone rambled they would be asked to sit down.

Do not take me not using notes with being unprepared.

I would be very well prepared.

How many times have you seen a singer using notes to sing their song?

Your first thought is they are not preapared.

What does Simon Cowell of American Idol say?

"Forget your words you are going home".

Not saying some of the points are not good. Some of them are. Some of them are being viewed through double thick rose colored glasses.
How thick can my glasses be when I grew up in a pastors home.

My dad was also an evangelist, I heard every kind of story first handed.

I have a brother and several family members who are pastors.

My unlce pastored one of the largest Southern Baptist convention churches.

He knew the names of all his 5000 plus members.

There is nothing on my list that a pastor should disrespect.

Especially the bible school graduates.

So what did they teach at the colleges like JCM? Sermon outlines all day.

They must have left out bedside manners and how to act in the pulpit.

I have some 300 plus customers that I spend a lot of time in relationship.

Talking and calling them.

Not just when a deal is pending.

I would not be any different if my customer was the saints in the church.

They would get the same hands on customer service and most likely better.

I have several hundred hours talking the role of pastors with pastors.

All family members...

The succcessful ones are people oriented....

Yes, we all know you were raised in a preachers home. You only post it about 30 times a week.

But until you actually pastor, which you have not done, then you have no idea how unrealistic some of the things you stated really are.

BTW, was your Dad so unprepared that he EVER used notes to teach or preach? I seem to recall you posting about having many of his notes.

The first thing I would do is thank God for letting me serve in such a high and noble calling.

Re: "50 things I would do - If I were a Pastor"

im not a pastor. but I am a preacher. the first rule for me has always been that the bible says we are saved by the foolishness of preaching. my best is really little more than foolishness. i dont take myself too seriously.

prepare? without question
understand the impact? implicitly.
Think my ability is worth a plug nickle without God? Not on your life.

and I agree with RRFord and MOW, Neck your list would be vastly different if you pastored....

I dont have time to make such a list but one thing is for sure, preaching would take up no more than 1 item out of the 50..... but then again, Im not a pastor so my list would change pretty quickly if I ever became one! (and I dont even have a list)

Re: "50 things I would do - If I were a Pastor"

I ALWAYS use notes and I ALWAYS use my laptop for PowerPoint slides while I preach. It flows very nicely and most folks don't even see my laptop. Notes help me keep flowing. I get anointed while preparing, so I write my notes under the anointing. They're still anointed when I look at them to keep on point. Not that I can't stray from them. But if the Lord gave it to me, it is important enough to write it down so I do it right. The palest ink is better than the best memory.

I can guarantee that me looking at my notes is much less noticeable than John Hagee! LOL

His notes were for his school lessons at JCM and Fort Worth School. Dude do you have something against me?

I sometimes regret growing up in a ministers home.

It is posters like you that always want to have another post their foundation for their posts.

I can tell you managing a network of customers successfully for 15 yearns now.

Is a great foundation from the business perspective to start a ministry.

Many of the pastors I have encountered have no business sense and no people skills.

My father was known for preaching without notes that is why I am so dead on that a minister must know his topic.

He once walked into Parkway Apostolic church grabbed a young man's bible and procecced to preach 2 hours on the Oneness of the Godhead.

i have him on tape stating who's bible it is...

That guy is now a friend of mine...

My dad spent his time researching the facts, reading writing and understanding the original Greek and Hebrew.

I know what I accomplish day after day on my job.

I support hospitals and large companies some with 30,000 phones and mulitple systems.

I am pagged in the middle of the night and have never turned a blind eye.

I have been awaken at 2:AM got out of bed drove 200 miles into Illinois for a critical PBX card and driven it back to the hospital so their phone service would be restored.

I have been through it all in business...

That has built for me a network of customers that have loyalty.

HMMMMM. Something that many church saints do not have why?

The networking and connection of the pastor...

The things that I listed on my list are done by me each and everyday and done successfully and translated into business practice....

Not sure why that gets you frustrated.

TO MOW and the rest.

My 50 things that I would do.

Are not cuts or slams on what others do.

They are the ultimate items that I would do as a pastor.

Because I do them in my personal business.

I do use Power Point etc only during a presentation.

I do not however have a stack of notes that I have to read.

The presentations are flow freely.

It helps the audience get comfortable.

I have sat in hundrends of hours of boring read each note on the slide presentation.

At the end felt like I was dead....

The teachers and presenters that kpet it fresh.

Taught me so much more then 0's and 1's....

The many times that I have preached over the years.

Did not require me to express my thoughts using notes.

It was done in way that was expressive....
