Misses the mark. It the reason the average church in America is less than 100 people.

So to be a people person and have preparation misses what mark?

This is not the feedback my list is receiving else where...

I have to consider the sources of respondances on this thread.

I have no control over nor could I change any other minister...

Last time I checked I wrote a list on the items that I would do as pastor.

Did I start off telling anyone what to do?

It was the crazy responses that have given me question.

I have received positive feedback by some very established and accomplished pastors from regarding my list....

I was asked the question by a particular person to put my thoughts on paper.

Up that point I was not walking around saying, I can do anything better.

They are just a list of things I would hope to accomplish.

It was others in this thread that attacked me...

Being prepared and professional is absolutely important, but....... all things being equal, they will buy from someone that they like. All things NOT being equal, they will still buy from someone that they like! Companies (and people) buy on relationship!

It's not whether you do or do not use notes....it's how effective your message is. If people start leaving in droves, then your effectiveness needs to go under the microscope. Ineffectiveness COULD be because of unpreparedness, but it could also be the delivery or how people look at you. Are you friendly? Do people think that you REALLY care about them?

It's all about relationship!
I have brought in 50 customers into a company that until 2008 had no customers in Milwaukee.

Customers do buy on relationship once they know you.

But if you are competing for new business put out to bid.

I have seen several large deals go sour from ATT towards our organiztion.

All of this knowing that the customer IT Manager or Telecome manager had a great realtionship with someone at ATT.

I do not target the teleocom manager or the It manager.

I sell at the C-Level.

They do not care about the presentation and the understanding you have of their business.

The deals that were won left the relationship partners stunned.

We won because we had a better design, plan and understanding.

The onging relationship is then built during the implementation phase.

As is the install we have going on with the largest school district in WI.

How did we win it?

It was not on price...

Now when you have relationship, customer care and give the customer ongoing knowledge of their systems.

They will never leave you.

As my customer have follow me from SBC-Verizon Businss and now to my current company...

Neck, actually your list is a nice specific list of things you would try to incorporate in your church using your business background. My guess is that you will need to tweak it a little once you're actually are in the line of fire!

Since I never plan to pastor, my list is very general.

It is proper when writing an email or text message to spread out the sentences.

Because some are reading these comments on their Blackberry while driving down the interstate.

What rock have most of you been living under?

Or does my business practices only trend in my field?

When you group sentences on an email or chat.

It is hard for some to read.

Also when responding to multiple questions it gives the responder a place to input their answer in the return email.

So they do not miss any of the questions asked.

OK

Now that is a great observation and one that I totally agree with...

Nathan,

I am just curious. Why are you surprised that they (laypeople/pastors) would react they way did? I know you said your list isn't towards anyone, but it is about being a pastor and we have many pastors that post here, they are bound to feel your list is someway a subtle rebuke to their ministry.

A list like this is bound to create a reaction. Just food for thought.
