Re: Obama promises Jerusalem to Palestinians
I will see if I can find more details about his exact intent.
Surely, nothing will happen concerning Jerusalem UNLESS Israel agrees with it.

Re: Obama promises Jerusalem to Palestinians
The issue at stake is a section of Jerusalem, "East Jerusalem" where many Arabs have lived for many, many years.
However in 1967, Israel conquered this part of the city and claimed it as theirs-- a claim not yet recognized by the international community.
So, using the Israeli court system, Jews have been taking back this area, block by block, home by home.
It is the goal of Mr. Abbas to have this section of Jerusalem known as, "East Jerusalem" for the capital of Palestine. President Obama sees this as a concession that Israel could make for the sake of peace in the region.

Israel says no. Obama wants to force them. And having even half of Jerusalem as the capital of a Palestinian state (which would have to be craved in the middle of Israel) would be a death warrant for Israel. It would become indefensible.

Perhaps it will bring peace.

He's trying to coerce Israel, not force Israel-- no where near sanctions or anything like that.
The problem lies in the fact that the international community never recognized that specific part of Jerusalem as a place where Israel would sole control.
Israel took that part of Jerusalem by force in 1967-- not much different to what just almost happened between Russia and Georgia not that long ago.
That is this so sticky.
Apparently, Arabs have made up the majority of this part of Jerusalem for quite sometime. Israel did not drive out the Arabs living there, they just took control of the area and claimed it as theirs.
It has only become recent (within the last several years or so) that it has become an "issue" as Israeli's have been using the Israeli court system to "evict" the Arabs that have been living there.

Re: Obama promises Jerusalem to Palestinians
1For behold, in those days and at that time,
When I bring back the captives of Judah and Jerusalem,
2 I will also gather all nations,
And bring them down to the Valley of Jehoshaphat;
And I will enter into judgment with them there
On account of My people, My heritage Israel,
Whom they have scattered among the nations;
They have also divided up My land.
Joel 3:1-2 NKJV

Do you reckon that this is that spoken of by the prophet Joel?

Some Bible teachers think that the portion about "dividing up my land" refers to partitioning "Palestine" into Arab and Jewish states. That happened before anybody claimed to be "Palestinian." The portion allotted to the Arabs became TransJordan, then Jordan.
Other teachers believe the portion about "dividing up the land" was accomplished centuries ago by those who conquered Israel over the years.
Others think it was a two fold prophecy, it has been historically fulfilled centuries ago and has been fulfilled recently with the creation/partitioning of the state of Israel by the British in 1918 and since.

I think it follows four verses behind what we well know was a prophecy of the outpouring of the Holy Ghost on the day of Pentecost.
To say that a letter written is speaking of what happened 2000+ years ago and then four verses later it has jumped 2 thousand years into the future to our present day and beyond is quite a stretch.
Of course this is not necessarily what you were saying... I am just speaking of those who make that stretch.
