We have such a multicultural congregation it is a major minefield trying to pronounce some of the names. I am so glad I don't have to call out the prayer requests. In most churches I would call out the name of visitors, but in this church I wasn't long giving that up.
None of us like to have our names mispronounced. Some folks will choose an English name to simplify things, but then the names they choose can be really inappropriate or even embarrassing. They hear a word and like the sound of it, but don't really know the meaning of it.
