I'll admit, I'm not fond of most of the pentecostal customs. It's not a natural reaction to the flow of music, looks contrived, and just reinforces the idea that pentecostalism is a separate culture unto its own. That being said, we do mostly guitar-driven, rock-oriented music in our church and currently, because we're a bit short-staffed in "worship-leading" (not fond of that term but for lack of a better one...) I'm doing it. I'm very musical, but as pastor, I'd rather others get involved and lead. Anyway, I'm saying that to say this....I am ALL OVER the place when I lead. It's not contrived, not worked up, not practiced, it just happens because the force of the music and the lyrics make it IMPOSSIBLE to just stand there. I'm not saying I'm like Chris Martin (Coldplay) or Steven Tyler (Areosmith),but it's similar. It's the most fun I've had in my life. Funny thing, though....all those years in pentecostalism? I basically just stood there. I can't really explain why except that it didn't feel real.

Having only read the first couple of posts and skipping all the way to the end, I don't know if it has already been mentioned, but my LEAST favorite, and nomination for worst song ever conceived by the 20th century apostolic church is that stupid UPC-branded birthday song!! The very lyrics of it were written in the language of Mordor, which I will not utter here.
