Let me tell a little story here:
A church not far from me has gone charismatic....the ladies have cut hair....wear make-up....pants....etc.....the Men are doing things like "casual" drinking, smoking, and other things....
Some of the folk left that church and went to another church that is moderate. The moderate church folk tell me...."Look at the charismatic church over yonder. why the ladies who do wear skirts wear them above their knees!" Horrible, etc...
This happens say 2 years ago....
I tell the moderate Pastor that I am worried that he needs to tighten up a little b/c his church will be headed the same way....but NO His folks know how to handle the "liberty" and walk in the Spirit not legalism....
NOW, 2 years later HIS DAUGHTER and WIFE who both are active leaders in the church are wearing skirts above the knee?????????????????????????????????????????????? ????????????????????????????????????????????????
HELLO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SOMETHING IS WRONG HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And before somebody jumps on that "its what's on the inside that counts" let me say that whats on the inside WILL show up on the outside....
You CAN dress RIGHT and be ROTTEN on the INSIDE
But you CANNOT dress WRONG and be RIGHT on the INSIDE!!!!!!!!!

If I remember back in my parents ABI yearbook from the late 60's early 70's... most of the women's skirts were somewhat above the knee...

HA HA that is funny. I needed a real good laugh. Dress wrong? Do you mean no standards? Cause you know you can also draw the line as wrong dress being not matching, unironed, dirty clothing, etc. Just curious.

Hose line up the leg used to be preached on years ago... If the hose didn't have a line up the back leg folks were in danger of hell fire...
Today a line up the back leg is very...... ....well you know what I mean... .... Funny how some things change...

That is quite clear. I am sure at times he did speak with a loud voice to the crowds out of the neccessity of being heard since there were no PA systems in that day. However I am talking about the demeanor of the presentation.
You have zero New Testament examples of Jesus and the Apostles adopting the popular UPC / Oneness Pentecostal style / tradition of delivery.
Don't you think it would say something like "...and with great gasping of breath, red face, and screaming did he preach the gospel to the church at Corinth...." if that was the case?
No doubt Jesus and the disciples were passionate and earnest about their message but you have the same amount of bible for the screaming preaching style as you have for what is called "shouting" in the Pentecostal church today. Absolutely nothing about that in the New Testament.
I absolutely can be a Oneness Pentecostal without being in the error you are in regarding these subjects.
|
Come now... John the Baptist, the forerunner of Jesus Christ and he who introduced him and his ministry to the world, was described as "a voice CRYING in the wilderness"! John PROCLAIMED and the Apostles did also and with BOLDNESS!
I assure you that I have as many or more evidences that they were boisterous and loud as you do that they were meek and mild mannered!
Prove to me by pointed and specific scripture that they didn't get red in the face! I have given you references that they did indeed get Loud and Cry and be Bold!
You are just showing your prejudice against your own roots! Where is Alex H. when you need him to cover this roots issue... the return not the running away from!

That is strange... I went to TBC with Brett...
It appears he had a pattern of moving away from solid ground even then.

Well,
You should actually visit Longview FIRST Church when you are there. It is pastored by one of our own posters here and you really need to meet him.
He might be able to straighten you out!
