LOL!!! I asked a pilot about birds one time and he said no way would they crash a current plane and nothing to worry about. Matter of fact I think he was with US airways. As I fly them or Delta.
The report is they flew into two flocks of either birds or geese.
??? But I have heard birds can bring down a plane. You would hope they would figure out a way to put screens are something to keep birds and debris out.

I was on a business trip once, when a plane made the news by sliding off a runway or something, same airline as the one I used, and at the same airport I used. Makes ya think!

They did get wet because one passenger said as soon as they opened the door water began filling the aircraft.
They were also getting children and women off first. I'm surprised about that. I would have expected the closest to the door to exit first.

That pilot did an amazing job of making the best of a very difficult situation! I have flown out of LGA many times, and it's always a weird feeling to me to make that sharp curve and fly out over the water. It's such a miracle that everyone is ok.
I just finished reading last week a Christian novel called "The Seat Beside Me" about this very kind of plane crash, where the plane ended up in a river. It was so realistic and I had to fly the next day after I read it!! But in the book, only five people survived. It was very thought provoking. That's the first thing I thought of when Eddie told me it was on the news today!

I'd think that even if there was a screen or something over the engine opening, that if a goose or whatever hit that screen, with the plane going a few hundred + miles per hour - the engine would still be full of strained goose.
