Re: IMPACT 09 Mississippi
I also enjoyed what I heard.
I have no intent to see a decrease in celebration at our churches. You can go to your island looking for scripture and verse for every nuance of celebration all you want... what a miserable life.
For the record, there is more scripture for Pentecostal worship than for almost anything else in scripture. Shouting, dancing, clapping, leaping, rejoicing, spinning... you name it.

These messages seem to link an increase in worship intensity to an increase in power. Did you not get this from listening to any of the messages?
You seem to be a little hostile towards my points. To say that I am on an island has nothing to do with what I am saying. I am not saying anything against worship but I am asking if anyone notices a trend.
GP, you would probably be very surprised if you met me or came to any service where I was leading worship. My church rocks out pretty good but we aren't very old time pentecostal. Sure, I don't believe in a lot of all that stuff but you will never hear me put down on a person for their worship.

My post wasn't directly to you.
I think we should have liberty in our preferences for worship culture. Instead, there's a group calling it unbiblical (gasp) and "out of order." That's ignorant, IMO. My criticisms of the church aren't in the theology of worship. Could worship leaders do a better job? Another thread topic.
Power does not equal exhburant worship, but worship does please God and bring His power. But our exhuberance is not FOR power, it's a celebration of God! Not all see it the same way, and that's fine. But to criticize Pentecostal worship for being "too wild"... there's plenty of alternatives out there that are non-Pentecostal, and unfortunately many that still call themselves Pentecostals, to choose from.

Re: IMPACT 09 Mississippi
I am definitely for Deep, Heart Felt Worship. But spinning around in circles, and jumping over pews is not what you need to do, to usher in the presence of the Almighty God!!! I know all about outward worship. I've jumped, ran, and spun around those poles in the Sanctuary at the MS. Campgrounds till I almost passed out. It was fun. But, thats not what made me grow Spiritually.
But, put me in a service where there is not a soul, who is not on their knees, and not a dry Eye in the house. In my opinion. That is worship!!!
I just think we need more balance with our Praise and Worship.
If we are not careful, all we will do is go to church to hoop and holler, scream and run.
And that will make us a very shallow christian. Trust me. I know people who thats all they go for.
We I was Evangelizing 75% of my messages were about Worship and Praise. I wish it would have been 50/50.
God Bless!!!

Problem arises when our hearts and mouths do not reconcile. Instead of shouting hallelujah, we need to be a hallelujah. Worship is who we are in Christ, not what we shout in church.

On the one hand you say there's no value in the "crazy praise" and yet you call for a compromise of 50/50. I'd think if there was no value, you'd want it abolished.
The Kingdom of God is exciting, fun and a huge party. As the late Carlton Pearson used to say (not REALLY the "late" CP, but you know what I mean), "we didn't come to church and stop dancing, but we just switched partners." Dancing is a part of Jewish culture for a reason. It was a huge part of the Psalms. Even the man at the gate Beautiful reacted with praise. May it never die.
I also see a need for balance, having both outer court praise and inner court intimacy. Take God out of the box. Tears and sad love songs aren't the only way the Spirit moves.

I think you are scripturally incorrect, staysharp. But you are halfway there, IMO. Worship is not confined to actions and the "fruit of our lips", but also is our lives, as living sacrifices for Him.
