Actually, sometimes I argue for or against something just because there are reasons that other people believe the way they do-not because I believe that way. I figure that sometimes others do this as well. And just because someone else has a different opinion doesn't mean I will change mine... sometimes it makes me think and establish where I do stand more firmly.
I think the realization you are working under is stated in the Bible something like this... we battle not against flesh and blood.
When will people realize that it isn't the person that we are fighting against.
People are against...
Preterists... ISTS... that means people. Be against preterism if you want to... but love preterISTS.
I know of a pastor who says that he won't associate with someone who has less 'standards' than he does.
So my question: does he associate with those whose 'standards' are greater than his?!
And what if they made the same statement as he?!
When will we ever stop measuring ourselves against ourselves?!
Many won't ever stop doing that. That's one of the reasons I skip reading so many of the threads here. It's all been argued about so much, that it's just gotten really old-- I've seen it so many times I could quote some people from memory. My time is better spent doing something that will make a difference.... like giving my spare time to help do stuff for my church.

Good for you, Tina!!
And I agree that many won't ever stop measuring themselves against themselves...it's quite sad really...
I think the reason that, to Bro. Epley and others, the reason this place "feels less Apostolic" is simply because most of the die-hard conservatives no longer post. So of course it feels a little different. The dynamics have changed a little bit.
The only way to combat that is to get more conservatives posting again.
It seems that many conservatives don't really like discussion of the issues, they only like people that agree with them. Which I find unfortunate. If your beliefs are correct, you should have no problem defending them. I come from a strong conservative background, and I find it disappointing that so many conservatives simply fling out insults, or take their toys and go home. If conservatism is correct, you have to spread the doctrine.
I'm very much in a questioning stage, but I truly want to be right with God. If the way I am headed is wrong, I truly want to know it. Whether anyone believes that or not, it's true. I believe that most everyone on this forum truly wants to be right with God, and is open to learning.
I admire Bro. Epley for hanging around. He's not one who is afraid to stand up for what he believes. If conservatism is right, they need more like him.

Sad to say we have an eternal babyhood in Pentecost...Always fussing and fighting...We are to fight for the RIGHT but even in this fight we do not have to lower ourselves to sling mud...
I still think we are blessed to have a forum where we can discuss issues, doctrines and even personal convictions however how we discuss them proves the spirit that is inside us...
Jesus once told some that they knew NOT what spirit there were of...
We can be right and still be wrong....

All HUMAN people have different opinions about many things...lol...the tendency to put God into a lot of our discussions seems to be to make people feel more spiritual than others...
Such as God told me to take wine for communion...God told me to take grape juice for communion... I seriously doubt if God told either party anything...
The Bible is a book you can take and prove about anything...rightly dividing it is another thing!

I think taking intervals of posting less and taking breaks is always a good thing. When you decide to post again, you normally stay more focused on issues that you deem more worthy of your time. The longer you hang around, the more involved you become and then everything seems to start tanking on you. Just my observation and opinion.
It's always very nice to express yourself on any given day, if you are so inclined. Some days, I want to post shoes - other days I want to talk about politics. Some days I just want to annoy FreeAtLast and Edward by posting floral arrangements! Brewahahahahahha!
Some days I don't want to talk at all!
Even with all of our varied opinions, ideals, and moods - we absolutely desire the best for each other - that is what a Friends Forum is all about -
