My son came home today wearing a KISS t-shirt. I asked him where he got it and he said it was his band shirt for school and they are wearing them to homecoming.
There is no other pictures or writing, except the sponsors on the back, but the front says KISS with the typical backward Z shape of the S letters.
I'm not sure what to do about this. I'd like some advice from the forum members, especially those who have somewhat of a 'rock' background.
Thanks.
BTW, he's 16 and doesn't know KISS like most of us do.
I would not be concerned.
"Keep It Simple Stupid" I bet that's what it means.
I have heard it stands for 'Kids In Satan's Service'. Is that not true?
Back in the '70's there was a rumor that it stood for "Knights In Service to Satan." That was probably hype invented by a promoter somewhere.
The band was always "over the top" in their extravagance. It was sort of like "Professional" wrestling with the posing and the weird antics. No one was supposed to take them seriously. My impression is that today some kids use them as an ironic way getting their digs at their parents. Kind of like, "My parents were so dumb they thought KISS was real!"
Stanley came up with the name (taken from the New York Dolls song "Looking for a kiss"), and Frehley created the now-iconic logo (making the "SS" look like lightning bolts).[11] The runic letters happened to look similar to the insignia of the Nazi SS, or Waffen-SS, a symbol that is now illegal to display in Germany. Therefore, in Germany, after 1979, all of the band's album covers and merchandise used a modified version of the logo, in which the "SS" looks like a backwards "ZZ." The band's name has been rumored to have many hidden meanings, among them an acronym for Knights In Satan's Service.[12]
there is absolutely no confirmation of the "Knights in Satan's Service" thing or even any indication from the band that it means that, its all urban legend...
:sshhh that was a rumor created by them witch hunting christians.
no, it was probably created by thier record label or a concert promoter to get people who were fans of Alice Cooper & Black Sabbath to listen to KISS music, too....
of course, KISS was never really going for the same audience as those bands...
