I TOTALLY beleive in rank and that pastors are at the top and are the CHIEFS.

They are to be the CHIEF servants!!! (Remember: the towel is mightier than the sword!)

Good words MOW. A pastor that is involved with his people in fellowship and outreach is not hard to follow. A pastor that hides in his office and is never a part of outreach is sad. And I have witnessed it first hand.

If I come in the name of Jesus (by the authority of Jesus) against the tempter, he will flee, because the jursidiction of my authority by the name of Jesus includes treading on serpents.

2. Amen...to the principle that people follow guides that DEMONSTRATE authority with signs following.

This was the message Jesus sent back to John facing death in Herod's prision. My understanding of the scriptures charge ME WITH making observation of GIFTING-SERVANT-GUIDES that God has provided. I should focus on the Spiritual areas that they seem to demonstrate authority....it certainly blessed Phillip's witness of Jesus among the Samaritans;
..."For unclean spirits, crying with loud voice, came out of many that were possessed [with them]: and many taken with palsies, and that were lame, were healed"

3. Concerning your invitation to I Co 4:19-20 (what translation was that?)
AMEN. Paul understood the simple test of knowing if a servant was operating in the authority of his master by looking for what "power" was demonstrated.

I hope we would agree that the authority that should be demonstrated is over principalities and powers and not flesh and blood.

If we apply this admonition/test that Paul speaks of, what would you suggest we expect to see in anyone who would claim to be a guide? Was it present in those who were your servant/ministers pointing you toward the Christ?
I like your comments, my problem with jurisidiction is some much current ideaology might mingle with a NT application, I like the NT idea of Kingdom Rule.

Some points to ponder about Kingdom Rule
  • Membership in the Kingdom is voluntary for the present
  • The rulership and laws are based on Love
  • Means by which we submit is faith
  • The way we submit is hearing and obeying the King (who delegates his authority to his servants)
  • The reward and promise of submission is none other than the King himself

I agree with those who believe there is distinction between those involved in spiritual oversight and leadership and those who sit under that leadership.

"Double honour" as we're instructed to give those who labour in the Word and ministry is not instructed to be given to those who are led and shepherded.

While there are different callings and responsibilities in the body of Christ ,no one out ranks another.
We are a royal priesthood of believers. All people borned of God have equal access to Their Lord.
The five fold ministry helps the saints to come into completion so they can effective minister in the ministry of reconciliation.
All in the church are called to ministry or service.
I see no distiction of clergy and laity in the Bible.
Everyone is not called to oversight giftings ,but all are called to minister.
Saints do need Spiritual mentoring and instruction to help them develope in their place in the body of Christ.

Shouldn't we all labour in the Word? Aren't we all part of the body in which we have resposibility to minister?

We all are a part of the Body.

We all should be ministers, in the sense of being servants.

But the Scripture Felicity referred to is very specific.

1Ti 5:17 ¶ Let the elders that rule well be counted worthy of double honour, especially they who labour in the word and doctrine.

This is clearly speaking of elders who are in a position of oversight.
