Re: This Is Why Non-Christians Hate Us

The funding his group has provided doesn't give him the liberty to say these things.

Re: This Is Why Non-Christians Hate Us
I am so sad about the devastation in Haiti. I don't believe however, that natural disasters are the result of God's judgment on a particular people. Or that God delights in innocent people being killed.

I don't think anyone has criticized dear old Pat for anything more than just this lame and bone-headed statement he made.
Other than a tendency for these kinds of miscues, I'm certain that he's a pretty swell guy.
... for a "One Stepper" style "Three God" worshiping spawn of the RCC that he is. That is. Except for that. And he's prone to saying some pretty silly stuff. And he rejects the teaching of "Christian Perfectionism." But other than that, he's cool?

Re: This Is Why Non-Christians Hate Us
I don't believe "they" hate us because of the words of an individual. I do think "they" hate us because we are of God. Maybe "they" are appalled at his words as much as some Christians are.

No, it wasn't part of the official Search for Truth, just the opinions of those teaching at the time (and this was close to three decades ago and assume that they abandoned those ideas around that time).

I think the French soldiers actually spoke of the gallantry of the Haitian forces.
And who knows? With that many people there were no doubt a number of Voodoo worshipers who wanted to lay claim to every success. In time, it may have been Haitian santeria practitioners and others with alleged occult links who helped to fuel the story to try and bolster their own views in the eyes of the people. As time went by and different stories circulated and were dismissed, a sort of "consensus" is often reached in local folklore. Hearing some of these stories and not being too familiar with the revolution itself, a Western missionary may have just heaped everything upon "the devil's" shoulders.
But the historical record is pretty clear. There was no sort of "national" move or assembly to try and "make a pact with the devil." That's just silly. Just take a look at Robertson's confusion over who the French Emperor was at the time of the alleged event. He's off by 60+ years.

This was just North of the decade of the 70's when we still had people who believed that Dinosaur bones were placed in the ground as a trick of the devil...... At least in our church at the time.
