You offer a perfect example to my point....

Quote:
Jer 24:7 And I will give them an heart to know me, that I [am] the LORD: and they shall be my people, and I will be their God: for they shall return unto me with their whole heart.
Quote:
Jer 31:33 But this [shall be] the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people.
Jer 31:34 And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the LORD: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the LORD: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.
We are informed that this is fulfilled in us in the book of Hebrews.

Quote:
Hbr 8:6 But now hath he obtained a more excellent ministry, by how much also he is the mediator of a better covenant, which was established upon better promises.
Hbr 8:7 For if that first [covenant] had been faultless, then should no place have been sought for the second.
Hbr 8:8 For finding fault with them, he saith, Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah:
Hbr 8:9 Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt; because they continued not in my covenant, and I regarded them not, saith the Lord.
Hbr 8:10 For this [is] the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people:
Hbr 8:11 And they shall not teach every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord: for all shall know me, from the least to the greatest.
Hbr 8:12 For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more.
Hbr 8:13 In that he saith, A new [covenant], he hath made the first old. Now that which decayeth and waxeth old [is] ready to vanish away.
We no longer have a writing of ordinances of stone... but we have the law of God written on our very heart. Not written on that beating vessel in our bodies... but written into our very spirit. Whereby we learn and live the nature of our God for the law never could make us righteous and still won't. But by the spirit we fulfill the law because it is written inside us.

Quote:
2Cr 3:3 [Forasmuch as ye are] manifestly declared to be the epistle of Christ ministered by us, written not with ink, but with the Spirit of the living God; not in tables of stone, but in fleshy tables of the heart.
Living by a spirit upon which is written the very nature and law of God will supersede living by a list of rules.

Quote:
Mat 5:27 Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery:
Mat 5:28 But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.
With the list of rules there are loopholes. According to the 10 commandments you didn't commit sin until you actually committed adultery... no matter how many times you lusted after her.

But by the new and better covenant we live by the spirit and are lead to a deeper walk than the rules were able to create because His Spirit is within us leading us and guiding us to all truth.

Not everyone has the law of God written in their heart.

Christian's do, but can still wander off into disobedience to it. Further, in John 14:15, Jesus said "if you love Me, keep My commandments."

Again, the point is that our relationship with Him is based upon our willingness to obey His will. We must reconcile to His rules. He isn't going to reconcile, or submit, to our carnal desires.

BTW, when I speak of our relationship to God being dependant upon our obedience, I am not including a laundry list of man-made additions to God's expectations.

However, wearing a KISS shirt is anti-Christian in my POV. That group stands in direct opposition to everything godly and holy. I have no idea why anyone would choose to "fly that flag" on their clothing.

That being said, HO is a great lady, and I really respect her.

I was not a Kiss fan......at the time I was into Country music.
Charlie Daniels and Jerry Reid were my favorites.

There is no other pictures or writing, except the sponsors on the back, but the front says KISS with the typical backward Z shape of the S letters.

I'm not sure what to do about this. I'd like some advice from the forum members, especially those who have somewhat of a 'rock' background.

Thanks.

BTW, he's 16 and doesn't know KISS like most of us do.
Tell him that any one of the members of kiss can be his grandpa. Tell him you are going with him next time dressed as Gene Simmons, makeup, latex and all...

Check out a Kiss video on Youtube, it will cause you to fall over laughing...

From what you have written here I would say that you have a good chance that the shirt will, indeed, not be worn after saturday.

What you end up with is a scenario where you not only survived the possible "crisis" but you came out on the other side having demonstrated that you feel that he has a brain of his own and you respect that. That will go a long ways in the future when other issues come up.

My oldest is 15. I will be traveling your road soon. But, as of now, we still have the most wonderful relationship because we work so hard to speak to our kids like they are actual people and not speak at them with barked commands.

If we do see something where a line needs to be drawn then even that will be handled with respect to them as a person. I will take them to the word of God and will explain to them why we feel this way. We have done this for years and so they are used to the process. They also know that I am not going to come to them with some off the wall scripture that half applies and try to force the word to say what I want it to say. If I can't explain it well then I either need to study more or rethink my position.

Kids will respect authority. Just not authority that lords itself over them and barks commands at them that both of them know they can't back up.

He that winneth souls is wise... he that winneth their kids are brilliant.

It sounds like you did a great job.
Thanks for your comments. I appreciate your sentiments in how see my methodology in dealing with my kids. I have always treated my kids as if they had a brain, but I agree, some don't.

My mom raised me with a bunch of do's and don't's without explanation. To this day, some things puzzle me about her rules....LOL!

I didn't want to be that kind of parent. My kids will someday (and soon!) be on their own and they cannot come back to mommy looking for a way out of a situation because all they ever did was just follow my rules without having any idea why.

There are times, perhaps more than not, that they don't agree with my explanation, but I tell them that sometimes understanding comes with age and experience, and they have seen that happen as time goes by.

It's not easy, all the same, but I'm happy with the results so far.

Thanks again.
