last night I had a dream
I dreamed I was with Brother Alvear and we were traveling to speak at a certain church. We traveled a long ways in fact all day and were so tired…yet our purpose was ever before us…to try to transmit a burden for the lost.
We finally got there and service had begun…lots of singing and this and that..but no real move of God.
When I got up to speak I begin to weep and tell them of God’s lost world…they just stared at me and begin to wander in and out others just left I could see there was NO burden…
I told of my younger days in Brazil, the interior towns, the jungles and pleaded for workers I woke myself up crying early this morning and the actual words of an old missionary that was with me in the states in a service last time I was home rang clear and loud to me…she said, Sister Alvear there are not many of us ole timers left…a lot of professional opportunity seekers around but not many of us old timers that do it because we were really called…
I see a lot of that on the field…people that couldn’t find their place in life in the US come for adventure but not because of a call, youth come looking for a boyfriend and return with their lives all messed up, others take the “right ” boy home with them to show him off and end up divorcing…Painfully I know a couple right now that would not listen and the great missionary call was a looking for a boyfriend… I know quite a few and their call was looking for a mate or free rent at my house.
Misplaced people do not belong on the field…I have tried helping people like that they are only headaches and disasters waiting to happen. Invented callings do not impress me, people that do not know how to work under leader ship have made ship wreck of their lives and the lives of those that are around them…people that try to play both sides of the fence will end up in ship wreck, people that will not work under leadership and go behind the back of their leaders to pity those that leaders correct trying to play the good Samaritan to gain “points” reaching out condoning sin after sin these so called will never rise to be strong leaders for they themselves have no convictions.
I woke myself up weeping for souls, weeping for God to raise up strong leaders in Brazil. The only way a young person will be a strong leader is by backing and not going against those that are leading the way.
Crying so hard this morning and hearing the actual words of an old UPC missionary were my first waking moments…In fact I was crying so hard in my dream because how unburdened the church is, when I woke up..MY PILLOW WAS WET from tears!
I got out of bed and prayed and wept some more for God to raise up GOD CALLED leaders.
I said recently I do not care to have any more Americans come to live here because most have left a bitter taste in the mouth of our people. I guess that was a rash statement but a true statement,
Just yesterday a group of Brazilians came to tell me of someone that did not stand up against sin but petted sin…I wept
We need schools of missions and pastors in the states to train those that come to the mission fields. Along with a burden must come responsibility and accountability.
Along with these two items must come loyality and purness of heart.
I ask you this morning, do we really have a burden for the lost or are we just spinning our wheels doing business as usual?

Sister, I understand your burden, but not as well as you do. I weep when I see missionaries weep.
Many go to the fields for a few photo opportunites so that they can have something else to add to their scrap book. Some go at the expense of others for a tourist event. And then...a few for to find a mate.
The everlasting word for all who want to be a missionary is "Go home and shut up." If they are truly called to the field, the burden will not go away. In time it will come to be genuinely seen upon them.
If I were in your position, I would tell every American that wanted to come to my mission in Brazil, "No thanks. If we need you, we will be in touch with you." More often than not, they will be a hinderance and more often than not, they will bring confusion.

I am very tender hearted and that is why I am often taken in...
The mission field is like anywhere else in some ways...some evangelist are just in it for a car payment some so called missionaries are in it because they have nothing else to do...take pictures of other people's churches and recieve offerings...
BUT there are REAL GOD called missionaries and the false hurts the real however time reveals a lot...Pastors that recieve missionaries should contact those they say they work with to see if it is true...
I had one pastor tell me that 1000 dollars was given to a certain person to give to me...I never saw it...
