I just spoke to a high profile person in music (upc)
who complained to me that the pastor of the church
they are basing out of has been sending the musician
and the church staff to Charismatic worship conference
so that they will catch on to the style and way they
do it. This person lamented that the pastor had cut out
most of the hymns of the church and wanted all charismatic
(for lack of a better term) style music. This church sung out
of hymn books for years and now to cut them hymns cold
turkey was a big shock. now, understand that this church
and most churches no longer use song books. I'm talking
about cutting out all old songs because the pastor wants
to copy exactly what he is seeing at the charismatic worship
conferences.
Also, at many of our youth functions, national, regional and
even local, the music style is mostly the same as what you
would hear at any non denominal church.
I am open minded when it comes to music. I like many styles.
I even like many modern songs. some of it gets a little boring
and tired but for the most part the words are good. however,
is it good that a lot of our churches are going Totally this
style ???
If so, why ?? and why are they doing this ?? Do you see any of
the charismatic pastors coming to our churches to copy us ???

not really, they see us as legalistic snobs and cult members who try to reconvert their members. some of them like those that leave the mothership like the Tennys and Promiseland... but for the most part they avoid oneness pentecostals as oddballs. i can say that for a fact after fellowshipping with them for years.
I've always been a fan of Vineyard/Maranatha/Hillsong style music anyway, so I dont have a problem with it.

I don't know if it's charismatic.... but I like these newer songs much better than what we were singing a few years ago. My wife complained that they are much more "wordy" but she does like them too.
I got so sick of the repetitive chant type songs these are a welcome change to me.

I am a firm believer in the Old Paths
Articles on such subjects as "The New Birth," will be accepted, whether they teach that the new birth takes place before baptism in water and Spirit, or that the new birth consists of baptism of water and Spirit. - THE PENTECOSTAL HERALD Dec. 1945
"It is doubtful if any Trinitarian Pentecostals have ever professed to believe in three gods, and Oneness Pentecostals should not claim that they do." - Daniel Segraves
I'm all for balance. If you're in an established church of many years and you try to throw out all the old for new all at once, you'll likely have a revolt on your hands. I don't see that as wise or respectful, either one.

Some of the newer stuff can get 'chanty' as well at times. I can only handle the repetitive chant so much as well.
