Grant organizations do exist, however, many (too many) churches are not legal set up properly to receive said grants. In my experience I have not found even one group that will grant money unless you are incorporated (with proper by-laws) and have a 501c3. (I know every church has all its legal/financial matters in order....right? NOT

)
Once these legal/financial foundations are in place, then the church/organization must develop a plan/program that will benefit the community (more than just having church/church programs) then find the granting organizations that grant money for those types of things. In many cases those grants can be used for the building and remodeling etc as long as it helps bring the community something that will benefit it. (i.e. A youth outreach/mentoring program that gets kids off the streets)
Finding someone to write the grants is not as hard as some would make it seem. If you know how to negotiate with them most grant writers get paid a percentage out of the grant proceeds (which is acceptable protocol in grant distribution) and are willing to wait for their monies. This type of arrangement is the only one I will use, as this puts the grant writer as part of the team with a vested interest in doing a good job. Otherwise they get their money and they may not care if you ever get yours. JMO
