Rick Wagoner and GM...

Fox News and CNN are reporting that Wagoner is out. This is the same dude who told the Detroit Free Press several months ago regarding taking a pay cut, "I can't live on a million a year...I have a kid in college!!"

So, where does GM go from here?! And was it his choice or that of the White House?!

It will be interesting to see how this unfolds...

Re: Rick Wagoner and GM...

I am not so sure getting rid of him is the wise thing to do. He had only been heading up GM for 5 years so only in the last year or so has the products and product planning under his regime started coming to market.

Buick just unseated Lexus as #1 in the J.D. Powers quality survey which is amazing. The new Chevrolet Malibu has excellent reviews as a real competitor now for the Accord and Camry. It looks good and is build good. Even has a 6 speed automatic tranny that helps the 4 cyl version get 33 mpg on the highway in a good sized car.

The Pontiac Solstice / Saturn Sky are great winners for GM with unique styling and great performance, etc.

In a year the Cobalt will be replaced with a European based small car that will actually be world class engineered and designed so will at last compete with the small cars from Honda, Toyota, and Nissan.

The Pontiac G8 GT is an amazing V8 engined rear wheel drive Sports sedan that all of the major car magazines rave about. It compares in size and performance to the BMW 5 series. It will, of course, not give you the prestige of owning a BMW but what it will do is give you a car comparable in power and handling and looks for literally half the price. $32-33,000 loaded vs. $65,000 for a Beemer 5 series.

It has not been easy for GM to wean itself from making big bucks off of large SUV's and pickups while making ............ cars that don't sell well. They now realize they have to make quality products in the car segment of the market and are making great strides in doing so.

Re: Rick Wagoner and GM...

Obama is a destroyer.

He is punishing GM for not making enough hybrids and green cars.

The problem is Obama. People do not know if they buy a car that suits their needs if he will punish car ownership or punish them by fuel taxation or bot. If they don't get laid off.

The only tallent Obama has is creating havoc. It will of course cause the loss of a lot of Union jobs, union pensions and union healthcare benefits for retired workers.

I am in favor of busting back union wages. I also see that Obama will bail out the unions. Ford annual report claims labor cost per hour is 73 dollars. India can biuld it with less labor costs.

I disagree with you both...

In my opinion, getting rid of Wagoner is the wise thing to do. His stupid remark alone to the Free Press was enough to oust the man.

It showed insensitivity at it's highest level...how unfeeling to say such a thing when there are people, like my widowed mother, who are striving to make it on their husband's pension.

Or blue collar workers who take care of their families day to day, and send their kids to college on far less than the one mill Wagoner said he can't live on.

And regarding Obama...I did not vote for him, BUT he is now our president, and my prayers are with him.

I do not believe he is a destroyer. He came into a mess, and is trying to do all he can. His decisions won't please everyone, but if he gave Wagoner the boot, I'm with him.

Re: Rick Wagoner and GM...

Barb,

You are speking from emotion, not logic. If you are the CEO of one of the largest companies in America and have been making millions of dollars for years then your paradigm is much different than that of you or myself.

For someone whose lifestyle, financial obligations, etc are geared towards their multi million dollar income of course the thought of "getting by" on one million is unsettling. That might not even pay his mortgage and taxes.

Now class envy may make you mad but your thoughts about him being CEO or being removed as CEO ought to be on what job has he done not resentment against those comments he made.

Obama is a destroyer from an economist point of view.

You are as wrong as could be on that one. Every dollar of TAX cuts can turn into 3 dollars of economic growth. A dollar of gov spending yields a dollar and twenty five cents in government growth.

Yes the Union GM worker costs a total of 73 dollars per hour. Now the taxpayer is paying that check.

Obama is destroying the healthcare industry. The ethanol industry is almost dead. The food industry is another targets. He will destroy organic and small family farms. Banking industry has now been twisted into a knot.

At least wagoner has automotive experience. all Obama's circle has experience in is politics and tax evasion.

Two things in the economy that in normal times would prove rapid growth. Low interest rates and a huge drop in energy costs. with obama regulating and attacking industries, people are still afraid of borrowing 4.75% money for ahome loan because they do not trust the destroyer and his attacks on industry after industry. If an industry is not in crisis, it will be shortly.

He is lining up removal of charitable contributions. He would rather collect tax and run charity thru the government. There is nothing in it for him if someone leaves 2 million to a church or school.. If he can get his tax on 2 million, he can give it to a liberal university. or Planned parenthood. Remember Biden had chairtable contributions of less than a 1,000 dollars if I remember correctly.

There is no question that this guy is out because the Obama admin wants him out.

CC1 makes great points on what GM has done under him.

Re: Rick Wagoner and GM...

Barb,

To Coadie's point - you might not like Rick Wagner but just wait until Obama makes GM put some urban Community Organizer or Union Thug as the CEO!

Or more likely some college professor who has never workeda day in his life in the real world.

Yes, I am speaking from emotion. I work for Magna Electronics, headquartered in Toronto. It is a worldwide corporation which is centered around circuit board assembly.

Our local factory is a supplier to GM, Chrysler, and Ford. Tomorrow night when I go into work I will find out if I am again going to be temporarily laid off due to the mess these companies are in.

It was not caused by President Obama, or his "destroying" tactics. So who is to blame?!

Many would fault the union. Others fault the the line worker. And still others fault leadership...Smith and Wagoner.

Perhaps all three are somewhat to blame, but my main upset is with leadership.

Am I emotional about this?! You bet I am!!
