Re: The witch of endor
Around Halloween, the kids and I did a little research as part of class. One of the things we turned up was an interesting definition of witchcraft, which led me to these conclusions (copied from my post on the Good News Cafe):
Rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and witchcraft is conversely a form of rebellion against God, in which a witch pursues the spirit world but leaves God and His laws out of the process.
It isn't participating in the spirit world that's wrong--it's doing so outside the boundaries God has set, and without involving Him in the process, or making Him the main focus of the seeking.
Leaving God's laws out of the process of course leads to tangents and rabbit trails that can lead to destruction of both body and soul.
For instance, the Bible speaks against "divination", which is foretelling future events, but obviously "prophecy" doesn't go against God--it's just the HE should be the author of it."
