Record snow storm in the works Feb. 1st
This is what is coming my way...
* Snow and sleet accumulations... storm total snow accumulation of
10 to 16 inches is expected with localized areas of around 20 inches
* Winds and visibility... strong north winds of 20 to 30 mph with
gusts to 40 mph will be possible at times...
wind chills will fall into the 10
to 20 below zero range at times from Tuesday night into Friday
morning.

Re: Record snow storm in the works Feb. 1st
I've been giving my daughter "tips" in case they lose electricity!
She didn't know they could cook on the grill - - I told her she can cook anything she wants - use her iron skillet and cook away!
I'm most worried about them losing power and then their phones not being able to be charged. They don't have a landline phone.

where more sleet is expected.
* Ice accumulations... storm total ice accumulations will range
from a thin glaze north of Interstate 44 to around one quarter
inch southeast of the Interstate 44 corridor.

gusts to 40 mph will be possible at times... particularly Tuesday
and Tuesday night. These winds will cause blowing and drifting
of snow... especially near the Interstate 44 corridor where
heavier snowfall is expected. Visibilities will likely be
reduced to less than a quarter mile at times... with whiteout
conditions possible.
* Impacts... travel will become increasingly treacherous...
especially from late tonight through Tuesday night.
Localized power outages will be possible southeast of the
Interstate 44 corridor.
Bitterly cold temperatures are then expected from Tuesday night
through Friday morning. High temperatures will only be in the
teens... with low temperatures in the single digits above to
single digits below zero. The coldest temperatures are expected
Thursday morning. Meanwhile... wind chills will fall into the 10
to 20 below zero range at times from Tuesday night into Friday
morning.

AND WHERE IS AL GORE.....GLOBAL WARMING????? He's probably hiding in his Tennessee home, that home that uses an abundant amount of electricity, trying to find someone else to sell his Global Warming hoax to!

Keep the phones charged and only turn one on at a time... for that matter they could turn them off and just check them every hour or two. We have a car charger.
Don't make the foolish mistake of using the grill indoors... especially the charcoal ones... people die each year that way... CO poisoning.

Yep - she knows to use their gas grill out in the garage with the door open.

I was going to suggest turning the phones off too except to check for voice mails but Hoovie beat me to it.

Re: Record snow storm in the works Feb. 1st
Unbelievable--WE are now in the swath of 12"-20" with a blizzard warning.
We bought groceries today [as usual], but also nabbed a snow shovel, some extra bottled water, stacked up the firewood by the back door and gassed up the generator and the truck. I double checked with my Mom to make sure she has all her prescriptions filled.
I'm shocked, actually, that we're expected to get this much snow.
Hoovie, I read that the West Plains area could get up to an inch of ice [accumulation]. That's a LOT of ice.

I know...it's terrible...everytime something like this happens, somebody freezes to death, burns their house down or dies from misusing a grill or heater or a generator.

Re: Record snow storm in the works Feb. 1st
Just throwing this out, probably too late for this storm, but with a small power inverter your car can become an emergency generator for small loads like lights, radios, etc. I keep a 400 watt inverter in my emergency tote box which has canned food, bottled water, batteries, etc. I've used it during a couple of power outages to run some lights.

Good tip, Azzan. My husband has one of those--I use it sometimes as a car charger for my cellphone (I broke my *real* charger).
