"One of them, when he saw he was healed, came back, praising God in a loud voice. He threw himself at Jesus' feet and thanked him - and he was a Samaritan" Luke 17:15-16 NIV
The next verse Jesus asked, "Were not all ten cleansed?" Where are the other nine? Was no one found to return and give praise to God except this foreigner?
Young's Literal Translation, "And Jesus said to him, 'Having risen, be going on, they faith has saved thee.'"
To save=sozo
Many translations render sozo as being made "well" or "whole," but its literal meaning, is "to save." Sozo means salvation. It means true wellness, complete wholeness.
To live sozo is to live the full life. Jesus came that we might live life to the full, He came to give us sozo.
And, when did the leper receive sozo - saving to the full, whole life? When he returned and gave thanks.
He had already been healed, BUT........
"Thy faith has saved thee." And the leper's faith was a faith that said thank you. Is that it? Jesus counts thanksgiving as integral in a faith that saves.
The ten lepers were healed, but only one was saved.
* From a book that I'm reading - One Thousand Gifts: A Dare to Live Fully Right Where You Are
I find it very interesting - - hadn't ever thought about the one coming back receiving more than just his healing.

I said once that Jesus didn't just heal most people, he made them whole. Not just physically.

Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is. 1 John 3:2 KJV
I've thought about this passage many times myself. The other nine were "just" healed, but the 10th man came back to say thanks, and heard Jesus say to him, that he was saved.
I've seen many people touched by the hand of God in their lives, but never turned their lives over to Him in complete thankfulness and gratitude. They weren't truly healed in body and SOUL. Their bodies may have been touched, but their souls remained unrepentant, and unthankful. Many want the miracles, the blessings, the loaves and the fishes, but to return and fall at the feet of Jesus, that is a place many aren't willing to go. To lay down their lives at His feet, and worship Him instead of the many idols in their lives.
I don't one to be one of the 90% who were just healed or touched. I want to be in that 10% category where my life is completely changed, and I want to live in Thanksgiving for what HE has done for me!

The converse is also true...the prayer of faith will save the sick. Interesting that it does not say the prayer of faith will heal the sick....
