Vengeance, and The Count of Monte Cristo
"If you ever loved me, don't rob me of my hate. It's all I have."
Spoken by Edmond Dantes, Alexandre Dumas' protagonist in The Count of Monte Cristo after having been framed and imprisoned for imaginary crimes. Dantes had lost his fiancee, a son he had no idea existed, and his youth to the worst prison France had to offer - all at the hand of his best friend.
Abbe Faria: God said "Vengeance is mine".
Edmond: I don't believe in God.
Abbe Faria: That doesn't matter. He believes in you.
Does a person who has been treated unjustly have a right to execute vengeance upon the perpetrators of injustice?

No, but I liked the most recent movie version. If I remember correctly the Count didn't take revenge in the end.

PP, Your new avatar looks more like you than the last one. heehee
I've been in the place twice in my life in which I seriously wanted to seek revenge. Sure there have been a few small things as well but two left scars. Once when my parents divorced and the other when a trusted leader took great advantage of my family and myself.
Looking back I guess its hard to admit that forgiveness in those two incidents were a daily necessity. Things continually resurfaced in both. One situation has been 99.9 % resolved and I have a relationship with both my parents as result. On the other God is helping me to see how it has consumed my focus. Its literally taking me from the calling he has placed on me.
Everyone is different but for me I cannot see how wishing, thinking, inacting, and yes sometimes even praying for vengeance on/for anyone can ever be healthy.
I know I'm preaching to the choir here but Ps. 94:1 says vengeance belongs to God. Aren't we faithful in tithing as it would be stealiing from God otherwise?
