Some time ago, we had a witnessed collapse. The ambulance was about 18 min out so I responded as a FD EMT and was on scene in less than three minutes. Unresponsive, not breathing, no pulse. I started CPR and was joined by another member after about five minutes. Third attempt at defibrillation brought back a pulse. We find out the family was not pleased because he had a valid DNR and his religion for bade it! The Lord works in mysterious ways... He passed away two weeks later.

Interesting doc didn't immediately initiate CPR. I have doubts doctor would pronounce him dead.
None of us were there to know what really happened but sounds like something good happened even though facts are not clear.
My thoughts exactly. I was hoping the video would show it.
And I am totally with you - God is good!

I don't know what happened, and it's not really any of my business. But, God knows and is able to reveal the truth if He chooses.

Next time I work the ED I'm going to put buckets of cold water outside each room so I can be ready.
Careful now, ED stands for more than Emergency Department!
Let's go with ER.

Maybe somebody stopped him. Like they did for Lee Stoneking.
There were clots and the doctor's advice was, "We have to cut him open immediately to even try to save his life." Pastor Slack and those with him said, 'No, we'll pray." . . . They did not cut me open.
My point was if he was revived/healed after CPR they would have strongly pressed for transport even if he appeared ok.
We must be careful to not let negative UPC experiences make us cynical about good things that can happen in UPC.
I'm with you, TS. I'm generally with you on this.
However, at what point must a person begin to conclude that God is simply not "in the UPC" - or at least not there to the extent that the UPC claims?
My own "negative UPC experiences" weren't just when the UPC was having a "bad day..." The toleration of sinful practices amongst the ministry and the blatant abuse of power and control coupled with the too oftentimes silly "exegesis" of Scripture to support just flat out weird teachings goes right to the core of the way the entire organization is run.
It's a mess. A mess that millions have walked away from to the saving of their own souls. Me? I got in too deep so here I am. But I'm not going to be quiet about the abuses anymore.
Every time someone comes up with a "miracle" - I'm going to ask questions.
It does seem that JA's case was simply one where the subject (JA) passed out and was truly unresponsive for either a few or even several minutes. That he is up and moving around now is great! Just how this case gets used remains to be seen.
I am reminded of the words of an assistant general superintendent many years ago when people were questioning whether or not 1 million Ethiopians had actually been saved in a single day... he said:
JW: "I'd rather believe it and have it NOT TO BE TRUE, than to not believe it and have it be true."
He's saying, that when in a position where there is simply not enough information to make a definitive conclusion, that it is better to be gullible than to be discerning.
Sorry. While I love that man, the UPC as an organization has not proven itself to have a track record of trust. We simply must demand better answers and real proof when extraordinary claims are being made.
