Thus, TO US, they "sleep" but TO THEM, they immediately go to the Resurrection.

What the story of the Rich Man & Lazarus?
Lazarus was comforted while the Rich Man was tormented.
They both didn't seem to be in soul sleep.

My dad did a teaching on Lazarus and you would be totally interested in this teaching.

i preach at my church that "its appointed unto man once to die" that means everone thats ever been ressurected from the dead
are still alive. lazrus, widows son, graves that popped open at the crucifiction feller went to sleep while the preachin was goin on. They are still alive somewheres!

Paul knew a man who was caught into paradise.2Cor.12[1] It is not expedient for me doubtless to glory. I will come to visions and revelations of the Lord.[2] I knew a man in Christ above fourteen years ago, (whether in the body, I cannot tell; or whether out of the body, I cannot tell: God knowethsuch an one caught up to the third heaven.[3] And I knew such a man, (whether in the body, or out of the body, I cannot tell: God knoweth[4] How that he was caught up into paradise, and heard unspeakable words, which it is not lawful for a man to utter

These people were dead but knew what was going on around them.Luke16:[22] And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried;[23] And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.[24] And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.

When Jesus died his Spirit went and preached to the spirits of the dead.1 Peter3:[18] For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit:[19] By which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison;[20] Which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water.

Paul said when we are not in the body we are in the presentance of the Lord.2 Cor.5:8: We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord

When Jesus returns,we who sleeps he will bring with him.1 Thes.4:14: For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring WITH HIM.

The way i got it figured is when we die the angels of the Lord takes our spirit and soul to the Lord and at the resurrection we come with him and then receive a new body.At the return of our spirit and soul our old body will be changed and will rise and our spirit and soul will re-unite with our changed body.

1 Cor.15:[50] Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption.[51] Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed,[52] In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.[53] For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.[54] So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.

Our dead body knows nothing but our spirit does.We receive life at death of the body but rewards at the resurrection.

Ok when we die we are judged. Hmmm. What is the purpose of the resurrection of THE DEAD? If we are not dead?

And what does this mean?

7: I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:
8: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.

Paul taught Timothy he would be JUDGED by the Lord at THAT DAY. The day of his appearing. The second coming.

To be honest, I haven't really given this issue much thought. But something occurred to me as I was reading this thread. When we die, we leave this time/space continuum and ussered into God's time/space continuum. If a thousand years are as one day, and one day as a thousand years, and God sees the beginning from the end, could it be that when we leave this life, we are immideately ussured into post resurection eternity with no time for sleep? Jesus spoke of the rich man and Lazarus, but he didn't say whether the enterity part of his parable was past, present, or future tense. Life is just a vaper, could it be that life really is just a vaper? I don't know how eternity's timeline works, I haven't experienced it yet. All I can understand is our timeline here, but how does that relate to eternity's timeline? Eternity is in a completely different diminsion than what we currently know, so time as we know it, wouldn't apply when it comes to eternity.

Just my spur of the moment thoughts, and probably completely useless due to the lack of study on the topic.

Soul sleep before the cross or after the cross? When did Jesus preach to the spirits (not souls) in prison? These spirits of just men made perfect are not in prison any longer, for they are before the throne of God as the redeemed of the Lord...the New Jerusalem, the church and assembly of the firstborn whose names are written in heaven, and to the spirits of just men made perfect. (Hebrews 12:23). The thief on the cross was with Jesus that day in Paradise, not three days later. Jesus moved Paradise from death before the cross, to His presence after the cross...they see his glory as promised in John 17...Jesus has the keys to death, hell and the grave. The believers are passed from death unto life...Jesus is the God of the living, not the dead.

Brother Michael and I have talked before over the phone... I appreciate his knowledge of the Word. We simply disagree on this doctrine of soul sleep.
