When a person dies, they are taken to the Resurrection. They have no conscious awareness of any passage of time.
Thus, TO US, they "sleep" but TO THEM, they immediately go to the Resurrection.
God does not inflict eternal punishment upon people BEFORE the Final Judgement.

I think you are wrong on that.
Remember the rich man wanted a touch of water from Lazarus.

Lazarus was comforted while the Rich Man was tormented.
They both didn't seem to be in soul sleep.

I have heard this taught as being correct.... against soul sleep....

Dont know if I am up to a full debate of it right now but interested to know if anyone else believes it. Thanks

I do believe in soul sleep. My father was a big teacher of this belief back in the 1970's. I will try and find his sermon tape on it.

So what is the point of the Final Judgement, then?

the Final Judgement formally handles the paperwork regarding a person's eternal reward.... in the most basic sense....

I have heard it said like this.
A man goes and commits Murder, the Police arrest him and put him in jail (Hell).
The man is held there until he is brought before the Judge.
The Judge pronounces Sentence then sends him to Prison(Lake of Fire) to serve
out his sentence.
