Perhaps I can be of assistance as I have four of these. The author used her own children/family in these books and since she has girls and not boys, boys aren't the main character. Also, on some of the books, the girls are also credited as having written them. (Kingdom Clothing, Angels Watching Over Me)

5 out of the 6 books seemingly deal with outer standards. Only one, the last one, deals with moral purity.
{Doesn't Holiness start inward? Does it appear the Mrs. Harvey is focusing primarily on the outward?}

My guess is that she wanted children's books that parents who believe these teachings could use to reinforce them. I don't recall any other children's books in the UPC that did this before Ruth.

Do you have "Angels Watching Over You"?
Another morning of getting ready for school becomes very exciting as Miriam learns many wonderful things about being a King's Kid. She discovers how the armor of God and her uncut hair protects her every day. Find out how special every boy and girl is when they are one of God's kids.
{How does her uncut hair really give her the power of protection? Can this be substantiated by the Word?}
|
The beginning of the book, Miriam and her mom are discussing the armor of God. As mom later brushes Miriam's hair, the subject of hair is brought up by Miriam as her friend had her hair cut and now some were asking miriam why she doesn't cut hers.
These are the Scriptures mentioned in the book that pertain to the subject:
1 Corinthians 11:10 (because of the power on her head, Miriam has big strong angels watching over her all the time),
Psalm 34:7, 1 Corinthians 11:14 (mom tells Miriam God made her feel as she does when she sees men with long hair- they make Miriam laugh and think they are silly),
Psalm 91:11,
Psalm 119:11, 11 Timothy 3;15,
Proverbs 23:23,
Ephesians 6:13-17.

KINGDOM CLOTHING - Kingdom Kids Series Book #2; For ages 5-9 years old
Do you wear "Kingdom Clothing"? As the summer vacation comes to end, Angel goes shopping for school clothes. She learns all about Kingdom Clothing and how God's Kids should dress. Find out how special every boy and girl is when they are Kingdom Kids.
{What specific articles of clothing give witness of Kingdom Clothing?}
|
What is covered in the book is Angel getting reading once again for the start of school after summer vacation and the mom and girls go to the mall in search of skirts needed in their school uniform colors. Women in pants is the first to be discussed as Miriam sees some posters with girls in pants and says, "Don't they know girls are supposed to wear dresses?" They talk about choosing skirts that are long enough to cover their body (mom and girls are always drawn with clothing that reaches their footwear). They are King's Kid's and should wear Kingdom clothing.
While eating after shopping, Angels notices that most of the girls she sees are wearing pants and asks mom why they don't wear them. Mom quotes
Genesis 1:27, saying God doesn't want the sexes to look, act or dress the same way. We then hear
Deuteronomy 22:5 and abominations. We learn this is something extremely disgusting to God, makes Him feel sick, almost like throwing up. Then we draw stick figures of a boy and girl to reinforce the dress difference. We also examine the signs on the bathroom doors. This shows people really do know how to dress.
It pretty much just speaks about wearing skirts/dresses and not pants if you are female.

MARBLE PALACES OR PAINTED BARNS - Kingdom Kids Series Book #3; For ages 5-9 years old
Are you a marble palace or a painted barn? It's Miriam's birthday and she is having a party. In the middle of the celebration she receives a very unusual present. Miriam learns how God made her perfect in every way. Find out how every Kingdom Kid is God's special masterpiece.
{Why is receiving a makeup kit unusual? Does putting on any type of makeup, including blush, make you a painted barn and not a marble palace for God to dwell in?}
|
It is unusual if you never use it. It's Miriam's birthday and she's having a party. A school friend gave Miriam a make-up set that contained fingernail polish and lipstick. She quickly set it aside and continues to open her last gift.
After the party, mom and Miriam examine the kit. Mom tells Miriam, "You don't need that make-up set because God made you perfect in every way." She likens drawing all over Miriam's pictures (ruining them) to Miriam using make-up. When Miriam says that would hurt her feelings and make her think they didn't like her drawings, mom responds, "That is how God feels when we paint our bodies." She then asks if Miriam would paint her cat with her art set, and says the zookeeper doesn't paint the animals at the zoo. We don't paint the flowers or the trees. This all shows that living things do not get painted.
Mom shares how
Psalm 144:12 says we are like a beautiful marble palace. If a king made such a palace, would he cover its beauty with a cheap coat of red paint? Mom likens this to wearing nail poilish and lipstick. We cover God's beauty with ugly paint.
So, yes, according to this book, putting on any type of make-up would make you a painted barn and no longer a marble palace.

GOD'S JEWELS - Kingdom Kids Series Book #4; For ages 5-9 years old
Are you one of God's Jewels? One afternoon the mailman brought Angel a package from California. After opening the surprise gift, she learns all about reflecting God's glory. Find out how every Kingdom Kid is one of God's Jewels!
{Who keeps on giving these young ladies such unholy presents? Does she cease being God's jewel when she eventually wears her wedding ring? Who created jewels and precious metals then?}
|
This time it is the paternal grandmother from California who mails the jewelry, a pearl necklace. Angel has to do a report on pearls for school. Then they discuss why Grandma Rieder would send her a necklace, when they don't wear jewelry. Grandma has never been baptized in the name of Jesus or received the Spirit and spoken in tongues, so she doesn't understand why they don't wear it.
Mom then recounts how she stole rings from a store when she was young. She then felt guilty, took them back and apologized. mom then explains why they don't wear jewelry and takes her to
Ezekiel 28:13 and shows how Lucifer had all these precious stones. "The light of the glory (meanining God's glory) reflected in Lucifer's jeweled covering and filled the heavens with brilliant color," mom explains.
She then goes to
Isaiah 14:13-14 and speaks about the fall of Lucifer. His pride turned him into a devil. Since then, he has fought against God and "that is why God's Word commands us not to wear gold or pearls in
1 Timothy 2:9 and
1 Peter 3:3. Jewelry draws attendtion to us unstead of to God. this can cause us to become proud and disobey God just like Lucifer."
Then Angel asks what reflects God's glory now. Mom takes her to
Malachi 3:17. If I recall, though, in one adult book on hair, I believe she says the women do with their uncut hair.
