Re: moderate use

I don't drink or smoke. No drugs.

But I'm a full blown Caffiene addict.

Addicted to Diet Mt. Dew. Drinking one right now.

Re: moderate use

Well, since I am not allowed to have caffeine per my heart doctor, I guess I can be against all four. The other three I don't think you should partake of, being a Christian. I don't think they are good witnesses. Maybe that's partly because of living in the Bible belt. Down here, when someone gets saved, people just expect them to quit smoking and drinking.

Also, how would you define "moderate" use?
Alcohol- Good in moderation, good for the stomach- the Bible tells me so... and in Deut. 14:22-26 GOD condones the drinking of "strong drink", it might even be a mitzvot, but I have to check...

Caffeine- as long as you're not addicted

Marijuana- Not cool to me, but it's not really that harmful in moderation. Hemp is GREAT! Hemp rope, clothes, milk (although I prefer rice and almond milk to hemp milk) and protein powder (although I use soy protein powder, very moderately). MA just decriminalized marijuana, to where a person can carry one ounce of it and only be fined. But I don't think it's a good witness for a Christian to smoke marijuana, and I would preach against it.

Tobacco- It's addicting (so are the other stuff, I know, but, tobacco is sort of different, it's actually more addicting than marijuana). I would preach against tobacco.

Marijuana and Tobacco seem really bad to me, I don't know if it's based on my culture or what, and I know some could use the "herb" argument on me, but in our US culture, it's just not wise to smoke either of those things. They're damaging to the body, along with other things, I know, like chocolate cake, but they just seem to be worse for some reason.

So you think it's ok to drink alcohol, but you don't have a Christmas tree??? Some things never cease to amaze me.

I don't know what's so amazing... one is Scripture and one isn't, I am not bound by your misinterpretations. Did you read Deut. 14? Did you read Paul's advice to Timothy? Yes, I've heard it all, "that was grape juice", but the commands in the Bible are not to GET DRUNK not "NOT to DRINK".

Jer. 10 covers the xmas tree, they're really unrelated, and I take offsense to how you applied things, but I love you in the LORD of course. Please don't take my words as harsh.

Many anti-xmas tree people also keep to a lot of other things, some say no alcohol, and some say no red and some say women have to wear dollies on their heads, and the list goes on and on.... and some... don't. They're like me, they see most of those standards as legalistic, but they see the xmas tree as a much bigger issue than weaing red or having a glass of wine with your dinner or wearing short sleeves.

Sherri, that would be typical of many ultra conservatives. Many would insist on alcoholic wine for communion.

This was also true for the "Horse and Buggy" Mennonites I was raised with.

Yes, that is true, but I would not be in the group of insisting on wine for communion. I believe grape juice is fine, and Indian naan makes great communion bread... and I even believe in... OPEN COMMUNION! YAY- IT'S A PARTY AND EVERYONE'S INVITED! [except of course, those that would partake, unworthily, and anyone who wants to study that, feel free to PM me...]

Communion is great, I love it, it's exciting!

Don't know if I fell in and out of a few of the lib-mod-con boxes in this or my last few posts...
