But how is "individual expression and contribution" consistent with being in "one accord" or, more literally, "the same mind" as in Acts?

That's just stupid!
A friend of mine told me something that happened at the youth convention this past weekend in Illinois (Pastor Poster might have seen this also).

A girl who's mother I grew up with attends a UPC church that doesn't preach standards. Her hair is short but she's able to wear it up in a way that makes it appear that she has the Pentecostal look.

There was a preacher talking about standards and this girl is in the front, shouting and dancing (as teens do during these conventions), and the preacher took note of her and told her (in front of everyone else) to not let the world tell her she should cut her hair and referred to how she looked 'holiness'.

My friend about fell out of her chair and said she thought in her mind, 'if you think she's got holiness (as per his definition of such), follow her out of this place when she puts her makeup on and let's her hair down!'

It's a shame that holiness is measured so often by the appearance of uncut hair and having a dress on (sorry guys, nobody can tell you have holiness). This preacher judged her as having holiness based on her appearance alone.

Have we now thrown Holy Ghost discernment out the window? Can we no longer see the Jesus that others wear because we note the holy clothing instead?

This is a big problem in holiness teaching. Ask most kids today why they dress the way they do and most of them will reply 'because the preacher told me to'. Ask them why they got baptised in Jesus name and they'll say, 'because Acts 2:38 says to'.

Kids today have no clue why they do the things they do. They aren't taught reasoning and principle. And we wonder why they are so confused and eventually leave when they are adults.

And we are more worried about TV..............

sounds like this particular convention was full of superficial fakes doing some really bad teaching. That isn’t the first report of pure insanity from the leadership at that conference. If these guys were doctors, they would get sued for malpractice.

Yeah, I wear short sleeves. I wear shorts with sandals. I have hair on my chin. Not sure what to call it, it's not a goatee. I never reveal my tattoo. I'm not proud of it. (it's really bad work..)

Berk, how big is your tattoo? I had mine removed by a dermatologist after I got out of the navy (I was lucky that it was smaller than a quarter, though). Even in my mid-20's I was scared to death of my mom finding out about it. lol. I'm really not opposed to tattoos, I just can't think of anything that I want to carry around for the rest of my life...

it's 4x2. I've considered covering it with something that I like. It's cheaper than having it removed, and less painful.

Why did your friend have someone tatoo his wife and kids? Why didn't he just have that person tatoo him? And why did he have to, in Hebrew, have him do it?
