Actually, no; I had to have at least four years office clerical experience, take a civil service job aptitude test (internal only), pass a local police background check, FBI background check, and TSA national security background check. The position also required a polygraph test. If you’ve never had one of these, they are nerve racking. They ask the craziest stuff. Since it’s within the airport division of the local Police Department it is essentially the same process as 911 police dispatch or police officer. You couldn't interview right off the street for this one. This position makes just under $20 an hour with government benefits (which of course I already have because I'm currently a government account reconciler).

I'm a straight up gangsta! Yeeeeaaaaahhhh. lol
No seriously. I was entering the police department with a Police Lieutenant who will be my direct report. At the entrance we have to pass through a metal detector to enter the administrative offices. I put all my belongings, including my pocket knife in the little tray they give you. At that point one of the officers said, “Sorry, you’ll have to take that knife out to your car. We can’t let you in with it.” I said, “Can you guys hold on to it until I’m done?” The officer said, “Nope. You’ll have to take it out of the building.” So I took it out to my car and put it in the glove compartment. I’ve stopped carrying it because of the nature of the work I’ll be doing.
