Re: What Do you guys think of this?
Prejudice, pure and simple.
Even if the young guy had been white, it is still prejudice.
Mind you, that many elderly people are just a bit more nervous anyway.
For all we know, Prax' landlord is black.
The landlord's actions would still reflect prejudice against the young black man, given what Prax has revealed about the situation.

Re: What Do you guys think of this?
JD, your conclusion seems to be a stretch. Locking one's door is an ugly prejudice? Are we to presume you leave your doors unlocked? When you drive your car, do you trust every driver out there to follow the laws of the road and not hit you?

But your judgment of the mans actions isn't?
It is amazing how one sided the definition of prejudice is these days.

It's not necessarily prejudice, it's caution.
We live (sorta) in the country, and we've had people stop by before, with a very lame excuse. I've noticed them glancing around, taking things in. That makes me very uncomfortable, and I immediately wonder if they are staking out the place.
We'd love to be completely trusting of everyone, but that's foolish. Unfortunately, bad things do happen, and we are wise to take precautions at times.
Oh, and the people I'm referring to above have all been white, if that matters.

Per JD's definition I have done all sorts of prejudice things.
I locked my doors & rolled my windows up when driving through downtown houston after midnight.
I locked my doors each day when parking at work in Houston but did not do so back in my small town when I got back home.
Who knew these were evil things.

My son has a friend who tends to be a wild child, he is allowed to come to our house, but my son is not allowed to spend time at his (parents are a little too free with what they allow). One day the kid showed up at our door with some other friends who went on about our PS3, and our TV, after I fed them, they left. I have to admit that I made sure and locked the doors after that.
BTW the kids were white. Just a thought

Bedroom door?
A deadbolt on your bedroom door is a bit extreme not matter who or what was said.

One of our youth invited him and he has been hanging out with the youth group. He's attended a couple of services too

That is what I was hoping. Thanks. I've brought others over before but I guess that comment unnerved him.
And Im not sure my landlord fully understood what the young man was saying. Even I have a hard time understanding his slang at times and my landlord doesn't speak english really good. I was thinking he meant it as a compliment. But I don't want to ask the young man about it and get him thinking it was racism.
