If you take one part of the scripture literally, you have to take the entire passage literally. Many people are quick to try to legitimize their prejudices without thinking of the implications behind their rationale. What you are suggesting is the Bible doesn't mean what it says, and people who do believe what the Bible says are part of the lunatic fringe. Don't you think the world has had enough of impotent christianity?
