Jack, Jermyn and others are sharing some good thoughts.
I would add a couple things to consider.
Are you convinced the word of God supports this thing to be? Is this God's will?
If you know it is God's will, then perhaps it is not something that will happen through a miraculous occurrence at all. Sometimes very radical changes in lifestyle or habits are needed to effect the change we seek. Chances are there are others who have fought this same battle and to similar degree. Perhaps there is a support group that can help facilitate the change?
I think very often we are looking for God to remove something entirely, when he is in fact, giving us tools to work with.
