What to do when God lets you down?

I walked in the Lowlands for over a decade and a half. It was a journey that would have brought down most lesser men. It sure came close to bringing ME down. A huge part of the problem is expectations. I've been in countless services where the pastor asked for testimonies and someone would inevitably say ".....and the devil has been giving me a hard time" and "I'm trying to listen for that still small voice..." and finally "I've just been feeling down". The problem is that these people think that times such as this are meant to last a day or two and then they poof -are gone! A true test of someone faith is when they can actually be down for much longer periods of time and still keep the faith -many can't. I nearly didn't and quite honestly thought I had lost it. The old "Footsteps" poster was cute when it first came out but then became extremely overused BUT it is still true, except the time frame that God is carrying you is often in many many years rather than the couple of days that most people think it is or should be.
