Aspartame (Nutra Sweet) basically becomes formaldehyde when it is heated. (Well, wood alcohol, which the body turns into formaldehyde.)

I've heard several medical doctors say the same thing, including Dr. Oz. My Dad's doctor told him a long time ago not to use it in his coffee, to use sweet'n'low instead. (in hot drinks)
