Hey Jules. Real Music.
I realize that for some, Paul McCartney is just as evil as anything that was on the AMA awards Sunday night. But last night (Thanksgiving) there was a special of Paul performing in the new ball park that replaced Shea Stadium. As I was watching it, and as some of it brought tears to my eyes, I could only think, "Now where was this stuff Sunday night?"
For example....he ended the show with "Hey Jude". Quick story:
In 1968, when the marriage of John & Cynthia Lennon was ending, their son, Julilan who was 5 at the time, was struggling greatly with the separation of his parents. Paul took a day to drive out into the country to see Julian (nickname Jules) and try to help him. He wanted to say something to encourage him and on the way, put together some words that became a song by the time he arrived at the Lennon ranch: "Hey Jules, don't make it bad, take a sad song and make it better."
He was telling Julian to take a bad situation of his life and turn it into something good. Eventually, so that John and Julian wouldn't be focused on, the song became, "Hey Jude".
I just wonder how many songs at the AMA awards had that kind of content behind them. I hate to sound my age, but wow, but what Paul McCartney did? Now THAT was music.
