Re: Installation of Bro. David Bernard
I don't think it's a bashing thread, BUT those of you who say nothing negative has been said (or implied) are being deliberately obtuse. MOW included.
Bottom line, there's nothing wrong with having a special service to install a new leader, and usually it's replete with other ministers praying over him--not putting a crown on his head. Seems appropriate to me. I do realize that it's overdone sometimes, but DKB isn't the type of man to become a king, even if others dangle a crown in front of his nose.
We've had special services to honor our pastor and his wife, and I'm sure the people in MOW's church have done the same for him.
As far as serving goes--our pastor doesn't expect us to serve him; he serves the congregation. However, we teach our children to serve others and the church, including the leadership. The difference is that some people act like there's a special blessing for serving the ministry above serving the saints. The eternal results of servitude are the same either way, but that doesn't mean we should leave out our leaders just to make a political point.
