Why? Do you actually think this tragedy would not have happened if kids had prayed?
I believe in the power of prayer. Yes what a fanatic I am. I anointed my nephews before they left the house when they were in elementary school. I believe in God's protection. I'm such a nutjob. But how can I be? A long time ago I realized what everyone else is doing wasn't working, so I tried Jesus, and it worked out.
I was thinking about all this this last night. The world has always been a cruel evil place, ever since Adam and Eve messed up in the garden. Their one son, murdered their other son. Horrible, evil, terrible, incredibly sick and despicable things have taken place all down through the corridors of time.
Read the Bible. There are specific generations and periods of time that even in scripture are characterized as more wicked or evil then others. Sodom and Gomorrah are an example of this as well as the generation of Noah, Jesus' generation, the end times generation, etc. I believe we are living in an exceptionally wicked age, and that this nation in particular has never seen the level of wickedness it is seen amongst it's youth I can assure you of that. There's nothing new under the sun, something do get worse but that all that does not change the wickedness going on in this nation TODAY, nor should it change our outrage toward it.

This IS however and exceptionally godless age or season of time and it is effecting this nation in strange ways. I see it as a reality and front of me and I feel it also in my spirit, that yesterday was a sign or a hint of something dark of a new age coming over this nation of lawlessness and sin. Not that it hasn't run rampant in the last few decades, but sin is restrained in most societies by law and order. But there comes a time when law and order means nothing and lawlessness rules. It's happened in every great empire and has led to the destruction of major world powers historically. When a nation looses any moral foundation that it has restraining sin from causing unrestricted chaos, nations fall.

OK, so you meant "state-sanctioned and/or mandatory prayer by students"? Sure you did. But fine. Let me ask about that, then. If there had been state-sanctioned and/or mandatory prayer by students, what do you think would have happened?
And, regarding this: "Well, Timmy, it's not what YOU think about prayers that counts", I haven't even mentioned what I think about prayer. I was asking what you think about it, and in specific, in regards to this incident. You and others write as if you have The Answer. You seem to think you know why it happened, and what would have happened differently if prayer had been "allowed" in school.

Well, Timmy, it's not what YOU think about prayers that counts.
What counts is what Jesus says about praying.
What does Jesus say about prayer?
Jesus says in Matthew 15:7-9, You people talk about
my teachings with your mouth,
you do honor me with your lips,
but you don't do the things I say to do: you hypocrites.
In vain you worship me, teaching the commandments of men as my doctrine.
As Jesus says in Matthew 7:24-26,
Who knows my teachings and does Them, is a wise man.
Who knows my teachings and does them not is a foolish man.
And Jesus also said "And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son." So please. Ask in Jesus' name that the violence stops. No more shool or church shooting, or anywhere else. Ask that this be done world-wide. No more bombings. No rapes. No beatings.
You believe Jesus, don't you?

WILL: Yes. And our response is always to think that there's some defect in the social system or some prompting in the social atmosphere that causes this and, therefore, we assume, we can tailor a law to correct the defect.
The problem is, the law can do three things. It can deter with severe punishments. Of course, we already have lots of deterrents against murder. They can impede the access to public spaces or to weapons. Or, third, the law can monitor and, in some cases, confine people who meet the profile of these people.
The problem with this is, these people are determined, psychotic, and often suicidal. It's very difficult to deter someone like that or impede. And then when you come to the question of monitoring or confining, you look at the profile. These are often men, young men, young, unmarried men, young men who are socially awkward, and sometimes young, unmarried, socially awkward men who have been diagnosed or even prescribed some kind of psychotropic medicine. The civil liberties and privacy issues involved in trying to monitor people in this not insignificant cohort who fit that profile are insuperable."

And we know what happens when governments take away arms from it's citizens.
