Re: Cutting Back On 'Church' Services

I guess the difference I am seeing is that some appear to view going to church as a burden.

Im sure it is.

Depends if your church is not worth going to.

But then again, if my church were like half the ones people on here post about, I would never go.

Re: Cutting Back On 'Church' Services

Going to church twice on Sunday wasn't the issue with me. It was the constant going out afterwards that began to wear me down. My ex wife and kids would act like I scolded them if I said "no went out to eat already today, where going home" after sunday night services. My ex would spend her last 10 dollars after sunday night service at the pizza parlor. I don't miss that part one bit.

Not at all but I have small kids having a easy Sunday night makes the week work better.... and Saturday is NOT NOT NOT a relaxing day at my house. It is catch up day. There is no downtime. there is just getting the junk done that builds up all week, then there is shopping for the next week etc.

Quite truthfully much of the church going was/is social activity, or community, not bad, it is good to fellowship with folks that agree on spiritual matters.

However, much of it was not a lot of value spiritually because we heard so much that was not biblical, and was the traditions of men. We had very little encouragement or skill to separate the precious from the vile.

Unfortunately, in many cases we didn't have anything better to do, to grow or to do the actual work of the church in our communities, simply for a lack of maturity.

Like I said, it wasn't bad, just not the best, but you do what you know until you grow and learn better.

What is better you ask? Well, I believe one service a week on Sunday morning, that is packed with fellowship, worship and mature preaching and teaching that actually equips the saints to do the work of their ministry. Then going out and serving that ministry every day of the week. Small group in homes on Wednesday evening that is actually ministering to the individually needs of those around us.

So, yes, spending so much time doing the same things over and over, and doing very little beyond the building, is a super waste of time and resource. And a unnecessary burden on those that have been called to do the work of the body of Christ.

Unless, as I said you don't have anything better that you know how to do.
