Re: Cutting Back On 'Church' Services

I have no idea how people rest on saturday.

We stopped Sunday night service some time ago. It has helped my family actually get rest on the weekend.

I have small children so it has been a blessing. We have great Sunday morning service that we do not rush and it works out very well.

I am not utterly opposed to a second service on the weekend, but if we did go to that, I would want it on Saturday night.

Although I do rather enjoy the "stay at home" part.

Agreed!

Sunday nights are so good for family down time and to get your week started off refreshed!

Re: Cutting Back On 'Church' Services

I guess the difference I am seeing is that some appear to view going to church as a burden.

Re: Cutting Back On 'Church' Services

Grew up believing God is #1 and Church is #2. No encouragement to have family time, to enjoy the weekend, to enjoy time at home. It was Sunday AM/PM with 30 minutes of prayer before each service. Then it was 6AM prayer every Tues-Fri. Wed Bible Study, Fri Youth Service, Sat AM prayer and Visitiation/Door Knocking/Bus Route Recruiting. Revivals were every night Tues-Sat, twice on Sun taking Mon off. No school choir, school sports, school involvement.

It was all about quantity versus quality. Very little discipleship, growth tracks. Just come to church shockamoo, speak in tongues, pray through go home come back and do it all over again. We packed that church out. 600+ attendance. But within a decade it was down to 350. Many of the youth from that era, the vast majority of them got the heck out of Dodge when they got the chance b/c many of them never got the heart of the Gospel, it was all about emotionalism and control and lots and lots of effort. Yu can pack out a building by working hard but the question is, "Are you making disciples?"

Disciples are MADE not born.

Re: Cutting Back On 'Church' Services

I like the balance of assembling ourselves together twice a week at church, there are also small group Bible studies that go on throughout the week and then there's the occasional dinner, fellowship activity or service project Fridays/Saturdays without having to put together a full fledged church service production.

Im sure it is.

Depends if your church is not worth going to.

But then again, if my church were like half the ones people on here post about, I would never go.
