Re: The Apostle's Creed:
I grew up reciting the apostal's creed in a presybiterian/anglican school and later on recited the Lord's prayer in a catholic school for years. Got so used to them i find it hard taking them seriously.. i'd much rather pray being led by the spirit

That is one important reason I wouldn't incorporate the Apostle's Creed into my personal devotion. After laying aside the rosary and repetitious prayer, it was very refreshing to know I could talk to God in my own words.
And being led by the Spirit is very awesome. Sometimes you will go into prayer and end up praying for people that you had no idea needed prayer and pray about things you did not have on your mind to begin with. Prayer is healing. Repetitious prayer is not.

I do not see why it has to be an either or choice.

I think a personal choice can be an either/or choice. And I think when a choice to be made is not particularly palatable to you, it ends up an either/or.
When I read the Apostle's Creed, I identify that with memories of rosaries, veils, candles, hosts, the Sign of the Cross, incense, black robes, murmured chanting and a lot of creepy superstition. Although, at the time, it didn't feel creepy and superstitious.
When I received the Holy Ghost, a new world full of God Himself opened up to me. The Apostle's Creed means nothing to me today. I don't care about reading or reciting it at all. It's just a personal choice.

I think I get it. I feel the same way about 'on fire' preaching that includes but is not limited to: screaming, sweating, bible (or pulpit) pounding, bright red faces, bulging veins, pew walking, gay skipping, etc. and feel almost nauseaous at the sight of it... and uderstand it as a trigger... so if reciting the Apostle's Creed has a bad effect on you, by all means, don't do it!
For me it brings back great memories of the loving nuns who cared for me when my mother was too ill to do it, the priest who helped me through my first bible studies, my dear mother-in-law who had such faith and has now gone on but who never forsook her Catholic roots... very comforting.
I also love to talk to God in prayer and praying in the spirit gives me a chance to pray for things that are not a part of my conscience knowing, also wonderful. For me, neither does anything to detract from the other.
Peace to you PO.

Memories, light the corners of my mind...
Yes, I get what you get - the preacher voice - ick! My daughter does a great impersonation. She can mimic just about anything or anyone. LOL! Although, she said after her braces came off she isn't able to do the weed eater sound anymore.
Peace to you as well!!
