None of that is what I'm saying.

First, I'm saying that we live in a country where the war on drugs has created a literal "war" in which the police have had to basically become a standing military poised to brutally enforce laws against a problem that should be handled as a national health issue, not a criminal issue unless a crime is committed in the process. Decriminalization and active advancement in healthcare and treatment for drug addiction is desperately needed. In addition, citizens need a wider range of accessible mental health services. The war on drugs is an abysmal failure that continues to be an excuse for militarizing the police and attack our civil liberties. Let's look at decriminalization and start addressing this as public health crisis instead of a criminal issue. Kids are being locked up and hardened into career criminals in prison over a weed. Prohibition doesn't work.

Second, law enforcement officers should have more psychological screening and evaluations. When dealing with training, many nations put as much focus on de-escalation techniques as they do the use of lethal force. We could invest more training in de-escalation, negotiation, and expand more deeply into actual community service.

Third, it isn't illegal to reach down in your car or to make what one might "interpret" as a sudden move. Not all cops are so cowardly that they start firing into a vehicle because someone reaches for a wallet or registration. But a few have. If they are too scared to do their job in a manner that doesn't put the public at risk, maybe they should pick a new career field.

I'm not against body armor. Nor am I absolutely against having the necessary equipment to neutralize a heavily armed gunman. What I'm concerned with is the "militant mindset" that too many cops have. This mindset often causes the bad apples to act as though they are "Dirty Harry" wanna-be's. These bad apples tend to violate our rights as citizens. It happens all the time.

TONE DOWN THE TRAINING. They're cops, not soldiers.

Their job is to protect and serve.

Not to enforce and punish.

One should only fear for their life if they are doing something illegal. Not as the result of being stopped by police after stopping at McDonald's.

In the recent trials of cops, much more than oral testimony was considered and presented. The BLACK jurors got to see beyond the hysteria of leftists like yourself and based their decision on logic. But just tools.
