The old adage still rings true, you get what you pay for.

EB, if this is true then the churches that the Apostle Paul preached to, sure didn't get much for their money, did they?

I don't understand how you can say that, Paul was a missionary building churches. He is the one who told them they were supposed to support he and his ministerial team. The thing is they didn't. They were taking care of other "super" apostles. Paul teaches them about ministerial support but adds that he wasn't teaching them so they would be obligated to give an offer all of a sudden to him. He informed them that he would rather drop dead then take a dime from them now. You see, giving isn't just a sacrificial thing, it is a spiritual thing. No one needs to tell you that they guy who is teaching you is sucking on his wallet. He also doesn't have to tell you that he is eating Ramen with his family every night. Jesus instructs you in how to give, from the deepness of your soul.

I understand that the Apostle Paul preached the gospel freely (without charge) so that he would not be a burden to the people that he was ministering to. It was not always the case, but it seems to be generally the case.
And I don't believe that the Apostle Paul was preaching tithing. I do believe that he was teaching that the ministry should be supported. Some people jump straight to tithing, as though it's the only way to support the ministry. It is not.

Bro, honestly ten percent seems to be a hang up with you. Bro, if the dude is doing the job of ministering to you and yours, then support him with what you have. It is that simple. But guess what my man, if you need me to tell you this, then honey child keep every single dime you make. Because what you give will have some sort of emotional strings attached. Man, I have known full blown rocked out sinners to help those who have helped them with advise, and caring. Because they felt passionate about their mentor and friend. They understood that what was being bestowed upon them was priceless. Yet, we will debate over helping to support ministry with 10% of a donation? Whatever.
