So on a serious note , I have heard 1 Tim 2:9 quoted to prove the wrongness of makeup, I guess what I am asking is what does shamefacedness mean ?

I have seen women who don't wear makeup who were anything but 'shamefaced'. I think it means a brazen attitude.

Here's a better translation - it has to do with pride - not being plain.

According to Strong's, it means:

"...(through the idea of downcast eyes); bashfulness, that is, (towards men), modesty or (towards God) awe: - reverence, shamefacedness."

Looks like it has more to do with modest attitude/behavior than anything else.
