Baron, aren't there some old laws on the books saying that hard core porn is illegal? (Hard core being the moving pictures etc, soft porn being the playboy like stuff.)

Yeah, people think that porn did not exist before the internets, apparently.
I don't see how people can call for a smaller government and then be okay with this.
Everyone saying that it is just an opt-in, another safety net: you already have that. It is called software parental controls, a power cord, or...parental supervision.

Yeah but.....soft core porn and what they see on the internet now are two different animals.

I agree. You can't let the horse get his nose in the door. Maybe I am a little more libertarian than some but I don't want any regulation. We have a hard enough time defining pornography as it is.
Would portions of the bible fall under this? With passages about gang rape, mutilation, etc.

There were plenty of hard-core options before the internet as well.

I think they were much harder to come by.

Do you think Playboy is the only mag out there?
Not only that most of what kids are exposed to online is more in the soft category, they don't put that stuff out there because they can it is a multi-billion dollar industry. They aren't peddling it for free.

They weren't in my home and yet every kid in the neighborhood saw them.

I think you want to believe they were much harder to come by, lol. The only difference was you had to go out and actually get it and bring it home, now you don't have to.
I am talking about the hard-core stuff. If we are going to delve into the fetish side of things, yeah, a lot of those were harder to come by.

Re: Legislating Internet Porn
I think it's easy to say we want "smaller government". I do. The government has it's fingers in way too many things. The hard part is finding balance. I think we can go a long ways back before we find balance. On the flip-side, we have some issues now we didn't have before. I look at the porn issues kind of like the drug issue. Marijuana and cocaine are illegal, most drugs need to be prescribed, some are on the store shelves.
We have big pharma messing with drug test results to make sales. We have the insurance industry with it's fingers in it. Now, the government is going to get it's fingers in as well. I am not for that. But, do I want all drugs, including meth to be legalized? As an allegory, how do you think that would affect America?
