Gov giving freee cell phones! - Page 3

I wonder if Tracphone co can write off phones off their taxes? If so, phones would still be funded by Gov. to some degree.

It's not much of a monthly service. VERY limited minutes. Pretty much just enough for emergencies.

I write off everything associated with counseling, meeting with, going to/from and anything to do with ministry -- including all my charitable donations. I guess my church is government funded

My mother has one of those free TracPhones. Hers does not have texting, cameras or any of the other bells and whistles. And a very, very limited number of minutes. I am grateful tho that she can get it because it gives all of us a measure of peace of mind when she is out driving anywhere, especially in the wintertime. I wish I could afford to get her the phone myself, but my plan only allows 5 people on the program and we've already filled up all of those slots. Frankly, I figure that by the time I pay the taxes on my $230 a month cell phone bill, I've probably paid for Mom's measly little minutes anyways (with my tax dollars). So I figure it's a wash.

You would. We have called this the Gore Tax.

Why is it a Gore Tax. It was pushed by Gore and added to the phone bill by the FCC.

It came about in 1997. Gore is an ugly crook. This tax is illegal. It was a federal tax that was levied and none done so by congress.

But the liar he is, insists it is a service fee and not a tax.

What really made the tax and spend Dems mad was the fact the phone companies placed it on the bill as a separate charge instead of hiding it in the base rates.
