There are some very successful artists with similar traits. It's not "one trick" anymore than Michael McDonald's husky voice is "one trick," anymore than Luther Vandross's tone and ballads are "one trick" and anymore than Adam Levine... Even Scotty isn't one trick, though his "big trick" is his deep baritone he slides in each song -- or Jacob Lusk and James Durbin's high octaves they push into each performance.
It is just my opinion but I don't think Paul's voice is all that. I can't picture myself buying a CD of him. I think the top three will be Pia, Durbin, and Lauren. Casey is also one of my favorites but he is inconsistent.

Polka music offers something different also but I don't plan on listening to any if I can help it! (Paul is not that bad of course. He is not bad at all. Just not very good in my opinion).

Funny, shows our diversity. I see Paul making an album right now before all the others. He already has star appeal.

I thought Pia rocked the house tonight. Who was your favorite performer tonight?

Re: American Idol Season 10 ~ 2011

I thought tonight was a good night for pretty much all of them. If I had to cut anybody it would be Paul. He wasn't bad but the not as good as the rest in my opinion. Scotty really surprised me by proving he can do a song without at least once resorting to his bass country trick. Haley is starting to grow on me. Her voice has always been good but there has just been something about her that didn't click with me.

Re: American Idol Season 10 ~ 2011

Jacob: He did an outstanding job tonight. Not over-singing the song, or over-emotionalizing it.

Haley: Still love her and her voice, but her growling is getting on my nerves just like Casey's did. If she would back up off the gravel, she'd have been perfect! Love her unique sound.

Casey: Perfectly balanced. Very good job this week Casey. Props to you!

Lauren: Voice was on point, and she did an excellent job, but that is my one worst hated song of all time. Dumb song. Dumb hair. Great artist. LOL! I prefer her down-to-earthiness, over this made up mess.

James: AAARRRGGGHHH!!! I missed most of his performance. (Stoopid Extreme Couponing sucked me in during commercial break!) LOL! But the last few moments that I did catch were beautiful. Loved to see him sitting quietly. He needed that after his crazy antics in the crowd last week.

Scotty: Obviously not comfortable with 'performing'. He's so used to sitting quietly I don't think he knew what to do with his hands and looked uncomfortable, which makes ME uncomfortable! LOL! Hubby called him a 'lounge singer'. Overall, not impressed.

Pia: Definitely out of her comfort zone. Not natural to her and it shows. Jimmy wanted more from her tonight, and while it was a great attempt, she still didn't deliver the goods. Don't get me wrong, her voice is incredible, beautiful, gorgeous...but I'm still just not sure who she is. Although this week I think I have more clarity about what I don't like about her: she just doesn't have the passion normally seen in performers. She even said tonight that she's terrified when she comes out, and that's probably her downfall. She's too scared to 'act' and be the performer I want her to be. I want my American Idol to be unique, and she's just so blah.

Stefano: Eh. Not sure what to think. He's got a really nice voice, but I just don't think he's got enough of the 'it' factor to continue to carry him through. He's another that I think is hampered by not having a unique personality that shouts 'I am a performer!'.

Paul: Another, 'what can I say' performance. I like him. I liked the performance. I like him because he's unique. 'Nuff said!

My prediction for bottom 3: Stefano & Scotty. Okay, bottom 2.

I can't decide who will be number 3, Lauren? Haley? Paul?

I think Stefano will be going home this week.

The Mrs, you do realize that Tiny Tim was also unique? Unique doesn't meant good! LOL

••LOVED his decision not to sing, "Let's Get It On" and his reasoning behind it. He wasn't holier-than-thou about it, just said, "That's not me."

Haley: Still love her and her voice, but her growling is getting on my nerves just like Casey's did. If she would back up off the gravel, she'd have been perfect! Love her unique sound.

••I agree, BUT, she's just doing what the judges are telling her to do. I don't get it.

Casey: Perfectly balanced. Very good job this week Casey. Props to you!

•He needs to play that standup bass every week. Masterful!!

Lauren: Voice was on point, and she did an excellent job, but that is my one worst hated song of all time. Dumb song. Dumb hair. Great artist. LOL! I prefer her down-to-earthiness, over this made up mess.

••Not too good and that getup was Gwen Stefani's doings. Awful!!!

•The most moving song and performance of the year. Standing O. The song made me cry...not sure why....and when it was over, James was wiping tears for a good while. VERY emotional song, masterfully done.

Scotty: Obviously not comfortable with 'performing'. He's so used to sitting quietly I don't think he knew what to do with his hands and looked uncomfortable, which makes ME uncomfortable! LOL! Hubby called him a 'lounge singer'. Overall, not impressed.

••Scotty is the biggest joke in AI history. He DOES NOT belong on this show. I can't take it anymore.

I want my American Idol to be unique, and she's just so blah.

••Within just a couple bars, it's obvious that she's in another league, vocally, than anyone else.

Stefano: Eh. Not sure what to think. He's got a really nice voice, but I just don't think he's got enough of the 'it' factor to continue to carry him through. He's another that I think is hampered by not having a unique personality that shouts 'I am a performer!'.

••Bad. He's one of my favorites, but that was BAD. Plus, I despise that song.

Paul: Another, 'what can I say' performance. I like him. I liked the performance. I like him because he's unique. 'Nuff said!

••Ehhh, whatever. He moves well but so does my neighbor who's a gymnast.

My prediction for bottom 3: Stefano & Scotty. Okay, bottom 2.

I can't decide who will be number 3, Lauren? Haley? Paul?

I think Stefano will be going home this week.
••Bottom 3.....really, really tough to predict. It's easy to identify who it SHOULD be. But I'm predicting, Scotty, Stefano, and Lauren.

Please God, let it be Scotty that goes home. But like you, I'm afraid it's going to be Stefano.
