Well, we always demonize those with whom we do not agree.
We need to remember that God is not a TEA Party member nor is He a socialist.
However, we are feed the hungry, heal the sick, house the homeless, clothe the naked, and visit those in prison (ref
Matthew 25:31-46). Also notice how James defines "pure religion" in
James 1:26-27. Some time read
Ezekiel 16:49-50 and see what the real sin of Sodom is, greater than the sodomite sex. Some believe these things should be done through government welfare programs and socialized medicine like Medicare, Obamacare, and Medicaid so our tax money should go there. And, we are to live clean, moral lives also. That is also called out in
James 1:26-27.
When the Apostle Paul was checked out by the Apostles, Bishops, and Elders at the HQ church in Jerusalem, not just doctrine was important, he was also to help the poor. Ref
Galatians 2:1-10.
Some fundamentalists (funny mentalists) put down programs to help, train, and educate people who are not as well off as we and call it a "Social Gospel." Some of them may be as straight as a gun barrel doctrinally and at the same time be just as empty and cold. We need a balance of orthodoxy and compassion. I think the Gospel message we have been entrusted with is for the "whole" person. Too often we have just majored on the spirit but people also have a body and soul which need healing/salvation/deliverance. There was a saying I heard at the Vineyard that I may not be able to quote verbatim but it said something like "people don't care how much you know, they want to know how much you care."
