Thank God for forums! Otherwise some folks wouldn't have a platform and there would be no opportunity to pastor posters.

I love this post!!!

I did spend a lot of time with some of my children and grandchildren yesterday. For those of you with grandchildren, you will understand, there is never enough time spent with them!!

Re: a keyboard doth not an expert make...

I don't see the problem with pointing out someone's assumptions are just that, assumptions, false accusations and baseless assertions

His post is logically fallacious

Apostolic is defined on AFF as:

  1. There is One God. This one God reveals Himself distinctly as Father, Son and Holy Ghost.
  2. The Son is God himself in a human form or "God manifested in the flesh" (1Tim 3:16)
  3. Every sinner must repent of their sins.
  4. That Jesus name baptism is the only biblical mode of water baptism.
  5. That the Holy Ghost is for today and is received by faith with the initial evidence of speaking in tongues.
  6. The saint will go on to strive to live a holy life, pleasing to God.

Your post assumes everyone falls under the assertions you made. That is a logical fallacy

For example, you assumed everyone that is here posting is replacing their family relations with internet ones..well..that makes you a hypocrit because here YOU are, just like the rest of us. So tell us why you are blowing off your family?

The point is you assuming that by having internet relations someone is not still having family relations

That is just totally asinine, therefore your later pontifcation "& you know it" sounds like a sophomoric response response from someone that is better suited for making asinine assertions but not supporting them

A few things to consider:

1. A keyboard doth not an expert make.

Your ability to type extremely long posts does not prove that you are more intelligent than everyone else, or even anyone else. Further, increasing the frequency of your posting does not prove the "rightness" of your argument. Readers judge posts according to quality, not quantity. Want to be viewed as an expert? Then perhaps it would be best to post only what you know to be true, with occasional shots of opinion added for flavor, instead of the converse.

2. Internet relationships are poor substitutes for family relationships.

So you've found a few people who admire and respect your prowess at verbal warfare? Who cares? It's not as if they actually care about your spiritual, emotional and/or physical well-being. Internet forums are wonderful connecting tools, but they can't replace the love of a family. Don't neglect real relationships just to stroke your ego. Your posting buddies won't hold your hand when you're in the hospital, or on your deathbed. They won't pay your bills or cook your supper. They won't be present for the major events in your life. Your family will.

3. This is not a church.

So you've found two or three people that agree with your whacked ideas about God and the Bible? Bully for you, I say! However, this is not a church (which is good, because half of the forum hates church). You aren't an internet pastor. Your opinion is as valuable as the poster's you're interacting with. No more, no less. You have no spiritual authority here.

4. AFF is not a pulpit.

Want your message heard? Then be a gatherer. That's marketing 101. Influence comes through respect, not bullying.

Finally, as a former forum addict, I feel qualified to say that it's possible to waste huge chunks of life worrying about winning stupid internet arguments. Life is way too short for that. Enjoy this experience, but control it. Control your keyboard. Don't let it control you.

Selah
Praxeas, you seem to be the only person screaming and whining about the opening post. Perhaps it's time for you to complete a self-analysis using the handy-dandy four step program I created.

I really am here to help you.

Well first of all, let's just put aside the Drama queen hysterical claims that I've been screaming and whining and not rather just pointing out the flaws in your statement...since as I said this is just an exanple of someone that is better suited to making assertions and not being able to support them....

Could it be that you suffer from each one of these symptions and your fallacy goes "everyone else must be too"?

I mean, do I need to point out that you are still here arguing, pontificating and avoiding your family for internet relations. That was your premise wasn't it? Shouldn't it apply to you just as much as anyone? Did you come to your conclusions because you are personally experiencing them? And if so, why after preaching it are you still here?

The point still remains, all you did was make assertions with no substance and generalizations. Why don't you go do a study and gather statistics, then when you've published your findings, come back and present the evidence

Personally I think too many people have broken their forum addictions lately. Some people need to come back and post more.

Re: a keyboard doth not an expert make...

I have been guilty a few times of being caught up in discussions on here at the cost of ignoring my children and wife trying to get my undivided attention.

And I have felt bad for it...

So....I suppose I can put the shoe on atleast a little while, cracjack....
