Sort of like half of the current crop of contemporary Christian swill that is out there.

As my youth group would say... WHATEVER! And I agree with them.

The opposite of being spiritual. You know what that is, yes? When I say that I began feeling carnal, the desires of my flesh began twitching and unwholesome thoughts began to flood my mind. Probably that same feeling of defilement that people feel after watching pornography and try justifying the reason. And no, I don't watch pornaghraphy, but for some reason I felt like typing that in.

LOL! Thats funny!
As a youth pastor of 20+ years, I can tell you that you need to do some homework before you start passing judgement on "contemporary" christian music while you sit around enjoying your country, southern, blues, jazz, easy listening, easy rock and other so called "acceptable" styles of music.
Thanks for amusing me this morning...putting earbuds in my ears for Chris Tomlin, Toby Mac, Newsboys and more...

Glad I could make you laugh, just as those wannabe Christian singers make me laugh with their stupidity. "Well, we can't make it out in the secular industry, so we'll just sing about Christianity."

Re: My God! I feel Like Tellin' Sombody
Often the problem I see in threads like this, and especially the responses is that they are usually biased to say the least.
I know the bible says to walk in the Spirit and we will not fulfill the lust of the flesh, and we know what the works of the flesh are. Having said that, being human is how God made us. There are some beutiful expressions given in songs that talk about love (not fornication etc.), and there are also some moving songs that deal with real life issues that are inspiring.
The other issue is, if you know anything about music, most fills, licks, and chops are used in a variety of genre's, so it is virtually impossible to always lay claim to a certain sound..it is content and motive that makes the difference, as with many other things.
I have known many "Super Spiritual" folks that simply refuse to listen to anything that did not talk about God, or did not have something about Jesus in it...to me it is absurd - God can still be God while I dance to a romatic tune with my wife. Some folks can't discern the differnece between being a christian and living at the church.
While the spirit of Christ should dominate our lives, everything in life is not spiritual, and folks who spiritualize everything are no better then the folks who are carnal about everything.
On a side note..I believe in having standards...but the funny thing is, the folks who really care about and focus so much on a "standard" are usually church folk who focus on standards...many other christian groups could care less...just sayin'

After 20 + years of youth ministry...I think not. I left the "wet behind the ears" stage many years ago.

Let me guess. You only listen to music performed by certified christian singers that meet your definition of christian?
Does that include Christmas music? Or is Elvis perfectly acceptable once a year?

I guess I can't relate. I never heard any Christian song that made me want to go have sex.
But what power we might have over someone...all we have to do is clap our hands in a certain beat and that persons hormones begin to rage out of control? His or her mind is instantly filled with lustful thoughts and now he is one small step from the pits of hell. Something ain't right

I don't have that problem with just hearing the music. It's the words that bother me which is why Christian music does not bother me.
Not all non-christian music bothers me either. It's usually specific ones that are singing about specific stuff.
